Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Power Sentry S10056800103/17 ShopLogic Power Squid Surge Protector (Black/Yellow)Customer Review: Equipment protection guarantee is very limited Summary: 3 Stars
Be careful if you intend to put this to any 'limited outdoor use' as the box indicates would be appropriate -- the product protection guarantee excludes lightning and 'accidents'. This is a great concept and a well-built piece of equipment. I have owned a (non-suppressor model) PowerSquid for 5+ years now without a hitch. I just think that if you really care about hard-core protection, you might want to look at a Belkin or some other model that has more robust surge suppression -- it almost seems like in producing this model, the suppression was added to the older PowerSquid model as an afterthought, rather than it being built around a solid protective design. UPDATE: I wanted to add that I did research and found that the similarly-priced Belkin surge suppressors DO cover damage caused by lightning -- in fact, their guarantees are more or less entirely inclusive, quite the opposite of the PowerSquid's.
Customer Review: Perfect for those large brick power adapters Summary: 5 Stars
I've used a few of these for a couple of years now and am very pleased. The rating is not as high as it could be, but I use it for the things on my beside table that are all low voltage. This includes my cell phone, mp3 player, pocket pc, phone, lamp, and other similar items.
No, it's not small and not really pretty (it is a surge protector after all, not an accessory item for your living room). However, I don't lose one or two plug-ins due to a large brick style plug either like I did with the standard power strip/surge protector. I keep it under the table and out of the way. I will say that it has a rather bright light which is squelched by virtue of being under the table.
Previously, I used the power liberator plugs to eliminate the issue but I really like this instead. Amazon's price is excellent as well!
Customer Review: Sturdy and Versatile Surge Protector Summary: 5 Stars
Although the PowerSquid looks like a prop from "War of the World" it is a great design for a PowerStrip/SurgeProtector. The construction is extremely sturdy since it is made of a very heavy rubber material. Wall worts will not be a problem with this design either.
The only problem I am having is finding a good permanent location to mount the long and bulky PowerSquid. I normally mount power strips to the inside or outside legs of my computer desk, but such a placement of this device would make it difficult to see the 3, slightly recessed, surge protector indicator lights. Now that I have my own PowerSquid I will be throwing my other powerstrips into the trash and buying a couple more of these monsters. I consider this a very good buy.
Customer Review: The PowerSquid is the bomb! Summary: 5 Stars
Can a power strip be sexy?
The PowerSquid is one of those inventions that works well and looks cool to boot. The idea of solving the wall wart problem seems so simple, and yet why did it take this long for something like this to come out at an affordable price?
The design coup for this item though is outer covering for its inner workings.
The designers could have housed all of the wires and breakers and connections in a black box, but this unit has these sexy curves that look and feel right. When you hang the item on the wall, cords flowing down, it looks like a squid - GENIUS!
I like it because it looks good, it does its job and its afordable. Very Cool!
Customer Review: Awesome product, unbelievable price. Summary: 5 Stars
I really like power squids. They are great for electronics, particularly when you have several "wall wart" type supplies that need to be plugged in. With a regular power strip, "wall warts" often take up 2-3 plugs greatly limiting a power strips effectiveness. This works around the issue. The only downside is that this is slightly bulkier than a power strip. If you have the room or the need, I still highly recommend this over a power strip due to ease of use and availability of all outlets.
Just make sure you are getting the Surge Supressor version. Not all versions have surge supression.
