Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Portable Sound Lab Handheld Speaker Case for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Exceeds all expectations Summary: 5 Stars
It's not often that something exceeds my expectations. Well, the iMaingo certainly has. In the past two years, I have purchased several so called portable speaker systems from the folding speaker system from CTA to the Logitech mm32. All of the other systems purchased were either not so portable and/or poor sound quality. They all lacked clarity at higher sound levels and the low bass sounds. After purchasing the iMaingo, the other systems ended up in their rightful place, the trash.
The iMaingo immediately delivered sound that was both full and clear. The iMaingo has eliminated the need for an FM transmitter or tape playback device in my car. Now, I just use the ipod with the iMaingo in the car, and the batteries last over 30 hours. I find that whenever I have friends over, the iMaingo is the sound system I use. It really does generate the sound to fill a room or backyard picnic.
The biggest problem with the iMaingo is that I have to keep an eye on it, as everyone that gets a chance to hear it wants to steal it. I guess my holiday shopping will be easy this year.
Customer Review: Great Little System - A Few Minor Drawbacks Summary: 4 Stars
These tiny little speakers sound surprisingly good -- especially for the reasonable price. In addition, it's great to have such a rock-solid protective case that's still small enough to fit easily into my purse. Not only can this set of speakers be plugged into the iPod, you can also plug it in to any device that has a 3.5mm headset/speaker output like a cell phone or a laptop computer--or you could probably put just about any MP3 device in this case--it doesn't really need to be an iPod! On top of that, the iMainGo uses it's battery power efficiently so you can run the speakers nonstop for 30 hours or more on one set of AAA batteries!
The four things I don't like about the iMainGo: 1. It's a little difficult to put the batteries in. 2. There is no AC power adapter 3. The power switch is on the inside of the case so it is easy to forget to turn it off 4. The way the iPod sits in the case doesn't allow you to charge the iPod while it's in the case.
All in all, the sound quality and excellent battery life of this unit make the flaws fairly easy to live with.
Customer Review: One small flaw in a great system Summary: 5 Stars
Anyone who has heard this little unit after hearing everything else out there in the portable market who does not give it 5 stars is deluding themselves.
Yes, it has a flaw -- that being the location of the controls. It is a pain to have to completely open the case in order to turn it off or on. I don't know what the manufacturers were thinking on that one.
Forget that. It's the SOUND that is important. This is my third portable. I've giving away the other two. The first time you hook up your iPod and listen to the music...you'll never want to listen to any other portable. I showed it to my husband by playing it, then switching over to one of our other portables. His response? "Can you get me one for my birthday?".
I have the iPod for the music and there are places where earplugs just won't do (they are not allowed at the place where I work) but NOW I can finally listen to a great sound from a portable system that I can take anywhere.
Customer Review: Looks nice - but there's better stuff for the $ out there Summary: 2 Stars
I bought a refurbished unit so my comments may not be 100% in line with a new product. The touch screen did not work. I couldn't get my ipod to respond - perhaps it got replaced or "refurbished" - who knows. And I didn't like the fact that portions of the screen on my ipod got covered. The window for the plastic "touch screen" should be large enough so you can see the whole screen - you can't - edges get covered. And the cord running from the unit to my ipod - well - it's just not very attractive. I thought I could get over this - but didn't like it. And the sound is mediocre at best - and yes, I'm judging this against other portables. And finally, not having the ability to run this off AC just makes it that much less attractive.
I returned the unit and found a winner - Sonic Impact Portable Speaker. Check that one out before you go any further. It's got all the things that this unit lacks - and it's only $30.
Customer Review: You Get What You Pay For Summary: 2 Stars
The inner housing for the iPod broke immediately and left glue residue all over the protective screen.
That wasn't a deal breaker. That was an easy fix, but still a little annoying.
After use for a few days, with the iPod at a moderate volume, the speakers begin crackling.
The distortion continued even when turned down very low.
This was the deal breaker.
To be fair, the speaker quality was great when it was working.
Either I got a lemon or the product allows for louder sound than the speakers can handle.
Either way, it has gone back for a refund and plan on spending the extra money for a higher quality product.
Once again, maybe it was an individual malfunction.
I read many of the reviews before purchasing and decided this was the best for the money.
But, I'm not going to chance more broken speakers.
