Customer Review: Looks good, but not best performance
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had this phone for about three years. I bought it primarily to use it as a good quality speaker-phone (with mute) for long conference calls. It was quite expensive (I paid $200 to get it) but here are what I have found to be its shortcomings: No caller-id display. This just baffles me. I get caller-Id on all other phones in the house except this one. I have tried every possible varient (resetted settings, disconnected other phones, etc.) but nothing works: I always get "NO ID MESSAGE" on the LCD. The second major shortcoming is that called-parties often complain about the feedback on the speakerphone. One way to reduce that is by lowering the volume significantly, but that sort-of defeats the purpose of having a good speakerphone. Another minor shortcoming is that the phone requires to be powered even though it is a corded-phone (hence will not work in case of emergencies). Finally, two connect two lines you have to use an ugly adapter. One good thing about the phone is that it looks quite good, has a professional appearance, and claims to have a duplex-speakerphone.

Customer Review: Excellent SOHO Phone!
Summary: 4 Stars

I read all the reviews as did everyone else and I was caught between a home phone with a lot of features like the uniden or panasonic (needed 2 line) and a professional phone like Polycom. Even though this unit is the little brother of the bigger conference room speakerphones it is undeniably a solid performing small business / home office phone. You won't get the features of a home phone - yes the non tilting LCD is annoying and you can't download Brittney's latest masterpiece as a ring tone. But what matters for me - searchable and indexed phone book (type in the letters and it goes right to the name), as well as an excellent speakerphone. I don't know about other reviews knocking the speakerphone, but for me it is excellent. There is *no* static or clipping for me whatsoever. I rareley ever use the handset and sit 2-3 feet away form the phone and no on eever complains. So I felt compelled to through in my two cents - excellent phone, just what I was looking for for home office, excellent handset / speakerphone / call transfer and conference abilities, etc.

Customer Review: RMA replacement with refurb unit in less than 90 days
Summary: 2 Stars

The unit functioned fine (very good audio quality on my end and on caller end), until the phone's "line 2" stopped working (purchased less than 90 days ago). Once I determined that the problem was with the phone and not the phone line, Polycom's support response (via website) was relatively quick, and they acknowledged the problem and agreed to replace the defective unit (still under warranty). BE AWARE: Polycom will replace / repair units under warranty for no cost, but you have to send the defective product to them at your expense, then wait up to 30 days to receive the replacement. They offer an alternative: pay $106 up front, they'll send a refurbished (not new) unit via expedited delivery and include a pre-paid shipping label to use to ship the defective unit back to them. Since I can't do without my phone (hard to run a business wihtout one ...) the so-called "advanced exchange" is what I'm stuck with. I'm quite disappointed to have to pay 50% of the original purchase price to replace a new product - that would be a "negative discount".

Customer Review: Great speakerphone, but mediocre handset sound quality
Summary: 4 Stars

The sound quality on this speakerphone is great. People on the other end can tell you are on a speakerphone, but so far no one has asked me to pick up the handset (which they often do when you are using a cheaper speakerphone.) The full-duplex feature seems to work well.

However, I am totally puzzled by why the sound quality is so poor when using the corded handset (one of the reasons I switched from a cordless to a corded phone was to get better sound quality, which I'm not sure I got). The sound is unnatural, and there is a loud omnipresent buzz (which the other party can here as well), which gets louder when you put your hand near the coiled cord (almost as if it were acting as an antenna.) Replacing the coiled cord did not help. For a $200+ phone, I expected much better handset sound quality. The phone is physically well-made and the controls are intuitive. I'm going to keep it, but mostly because its just getting really hard to find a corded phone with good sound quality -- no matter how much you spend.

Customer Review: When it's good it's good - when it's bad you're out of luck
Summary: 3 Stars

My partner and I each have a Polycom Soundpoint Pro SE-225. I bought them in March of 2005. August '05 mine went dead and I had to send it in for a new one. My partners went dead 2 months after mine and she got a refurb. Both times line two died. A year later, her line two is out again.

Polycom gave me these choices since it is out of warranty. Send it in and wait 30 days for a refurb for about $135 plus $35RMA charge, 10-day turn around for $175 plus $35 RMA charge or Emergency plan $227 + $35RMA. Total: $262 (next day shipping). I found a new one at Office depot for $199.99. Polycoms logic is pretty mind boggling when it comes to customer service. They oughtta charge about $50 bucks to fix it and charge for shipping that's it. Their pricing structure is not well thought out and it's an insult to the customer.

Other than that, the phone is excellent when its not having a problem. My only gripe is the display is not lighted. So if it's dark you can't see caller I.D. which is kinda dumb.
