Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Polk Audio RC80i 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers (Pair, White)Customer Review: Wonderfully surprised! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently installed 4 of these speakers in my family room for our surround sound system. I know, in-ceiling is not "ideal" as defined by the audiophiles...but for a regular guy in the real world, I say these work great. Dont read all the hype by home theater "experts"...well, not all of it anyway.
I have a large, very open family room, and these speakers easily fill the room with very nice sound quality. I've only listened to music so far, but I am thrilled with my decision to use these. Sound quality is great, and I dont have any ugly speakers hanging from my walls/ceilings. You mount these, and they all but disappear visually.
Installation...I laugh at some of the people on there talking about having some hard times with this or that. You get a template to use for cutting holes in the ceiling...use the right saw, and this is an easy process. Mounting them is even easier. Removing the grills the first time is simple...if you read the instructions on how to do it. Removing them later might be a bit trickier, but I wont need to get in there ever again, so who cares.
Great speakers, and a great price. Now stopping reading these reviews and just buy them.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT Summary: 4 Stars
I was surprised at the price that Amazon had these babies for, and I was even more surprised when I heard the sound. Especially the lower tones the base sounds are really thumping. I replaced a pair of Boston Acoustics for my new POLK AUDIO RC80i in ceiling speakers, you have to ensure you have the correct settings on your amp/avr or whatever it is you're connecting these to. The only reason why I didn't score them a 5 star is because the instructions weren't specific enough as to which cut-out pattern to use, so my bro-n-law and I didn't want to take any chances, so we used the smaller pattern first only to find out we had to use the larger pattern cut-out, so live and learn right, for the second speaker installation it was much easier. The sound rocks, I'm using a old PIONEER VSX-D812 which allows me to switch A or B speakers simultaneously or not cause I installed the B.A. in the master bedroom. AND, hmn I think I may change them out for another pair of POLK AUDIO ceiling speakers.
I want all of you to know i would purchase another pair of these speakers again. The specs on these speakers are great, you have to check this out!!
Customer Review: Fantastic speakers; easy installation Summary: 5 Stars
I installed a pair of these in the kitchen, after which my wife and I both had one of those mouth-open, "wow" experiences. They flood the room with deep, rich sound: crips highs and full, round lows. You can angle the tweeters to "aim" them better, but I didn't want one particular sweet spot in the kitchen, so I left them pointing directly downwards. Awesome.
The installation is quite easy as well. I found that with a carefully cut hole I had no problems at all with speaker insertion. As with the other reviews, I had a devil of a time getting the speaker grilles off, and was afraid I might pull out one of the tiny holes with the paperclip. Polk would do better to package these with the grilles off so that the installer can skip that step. However, I found that putting them back on was easy - you just have to make sure you put them back on with an even insertion on all edges and then work your way around little by little...you can't fully insert them on one end and make the rest fit, they are that tight.
Bottom line: I love these and highly recommend them.
Customer Review: I bought four and am NOT disappointed! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these RC80i speakers from Amazon as the surround speakers for my new 7.1 surround system. I mainly bought them due to the fact that the tweeters are on swivels. This allowed me to tune my system according to my needs. In this case, I pointed the tweeters at the nearest wall to bounce the audio down to the listening points.
I bought these along with the RC stand up line for the center channel and fronts. Polk is right, these speakers DO blend together.
I am very satisfied with my speaker setups. I consider these "prosumer" which means they are good but I know there are better.
The build quality is stunning. The magnets are HUGE and I felt that the way the mounts were developed, the speakers were going to stay in the ceiling forever! These are tough units and they SOUND great.
I have nothing bad to say about them. The manual was clear, the template they come with is VERY accurate and the install was a breeze. What more could you ask for? HIGHLY recommended!
Customer Review: Acoustic Bliss Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased these Polk speakers to accompany a Yamaha sound bar and Klipsh woofer in a big, long room (20'x30'). The sound bar worked well but, because of the room's size and length, it had a difficult time giving a true "surround sound" experience.
We have the Polk speakers mounted just behind the main sitting area and aimed them toward the back wall to give them plenty of opportunity for the sound to ricochet around the room.
Installation was easy. The templates worked great. I cut the hole conservatively, just to the inside of the line, and then shaved away around the cut for a snug fit.
I am not well versed enough in sound dynamics to study the range and mix of highs and lows in what I am hearing. I can tell you that these speakers exceed my/our expectations and then some. We just sit back and "absorb" the sound experience.
We will recommend these speakers in the future.
