Customer Review: Polk Audio Atrium 45 Speaker: well constructed ... Muddy Sound
Summary: 2 Stars

The Polk Audio Atrium 45 Speakers are pretty well made with gold plated terminals. They do NOT look cheap.

I intended to use the speakers as back-surround in a 7.1 setup, based on the raving reviews here.

I found that the Polk speaker sounds VERY MUDDY compared to my inexpensive Axiom M2i bookshelf speakers that I use for my front and surround channels.

I then compared the Polk with the cheap and tiny MA Audio speakers (at a quarter of the Polk's price) in my sun room. Again, the MA Audio speakers sounded crystal clear, but lacking in bass, understandably, COMPARED to the Polk.

I have no idea why the Polk Atrium 45 speakers received such favorable reviews. May be the reviewers listened to the Polks without comparing them to others ?

Customer Review: Well built and easy to install
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these Polks to extend my audio outside while entertaining. They supplement 3 pairs of RC60is that I have in my kitchen/bar/dining room. I'm using a Monster ss-4 speaker selector to connect all four pairs. The Atriums were easy to install with solid mounts, although I would have liked the mounts to rotate on more than one axis so I could "toe-in" the speakers and angle them down. If mounted vertically you can toe-in, if mounted horizontally you can angle down, but you can't do both. My main gripe is they don't seem as loud as the indoor speakers so I can't just set a comfortable volume for all four pair simultaneously. To be fair my outdoor space is noisy so I might be cranking them up to compensate. I plan to add a volume control to attenuate the indoor speakers to solve that problem.

Customer Review: Never Disappointed With Polk
Summary: 5 Stars

I own many Polk speakers including models dating back to the mid 80's (10's, 5's, and 4.6 series just to name a few). These Atrium 45's are my newest addition. Because of our current budget, I seriously considered spending less and therefore looked at some of the other models in the top ten sellers list. But, I am very devoted to Polk. Why? Because they sound great. If you are debating whether or not to spend the extra cash for these (like I was), I promise you will not be sorry with the sound quality and the overall quality of this speaker system. I am very happy that I purchased these speakers. One more note worthy of mention: the bass output from these tiny speakers is very impressive.

Customer Review: great speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

K so I haven't had them installed that long, however, for the bit of time that I have had them installed they have worked great. As the summer wears on I will see how they last. As for sound they are extremely clear, and can be turned up loud enough for the neighbors to have a legitimate complaint.

Installation: They are extremely easy to install. I modified the the installation slightly though. Instead of using the screw slots I placed a large lag bolt through the speaker wire hole so I can rotate the speakers left or right. Eventually when I am satisfied with their positions I will probably set 2 screws to help stablize the bracket as they were designed.

Customer Review: Great speakers, terrible customer service
Summary: 4 Stars

Speakers sound great, look great. But be aware if you have to send in one of the speakers in for repair it's a terrible process. One of the mid-range drivers broke in one of the speakers. I called, packaged up the speaker and sent it in to the Polk Audio service center. I called 2 weeks later and asked the status, the guy said he has no idea where the speaker is. Then told me there are two palates of speakers that have to be worked on still. Apparently they have one guy that fixes all of their speakers. It's now been 3 weeks and I still don't have my broken speaker back.

But the speakers do sound terrific when they work, hence the 4 stars.
