Customer Review: Great Speakers and Great Price on Amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

I've seen these speakers for $200 to $250 in 'brick in mortar' stores, so they were a steal at Amazon's price.

They were easy to install and sound great. I've seen others complaining about a lack of bass, but I personally do not have that problem. Sound carries differently outside, and without walls and other hard objects to 'bounce' off of speakers are going to sound differently outdoors. Placement of the speakers will also determine how they sound. For example, placing them up high near a ceiling will help give more bass.

Some outdoors speakers sound 'hollow', and are not capable of delivering a decent range for outdoor music listening. A song like 'Adagio In D Minor' still sounds good, and any speaker that can solidly reproduce the sounds on 'Adagio In D Minor' is okay in my book. These speakers sound great, and I think they are the best speakers you can buy at this price point.

Sure, you could jump into the $200+ range (on Amazon) for better sounding outdoor speakers, but unless you are a serious audiophile I wouldn't recommend spending the extra cash.

Customer Review: Great bang for the buck
Summary: 4 Stars

Fantastic deal on these speakers and they sound great above the new patio. They blend in great on the house (white siding), as well. The only negative I'd note is, as smaller speakers, they definitely tend to be a little on high sound of the audio spectrum. When I first hooked them up to the receiver in our living room, they sounded distorted and were cracking a little bit. I thought I had a problem on my hands, but after some adjustment, I realized that the treble was just too high for them on the receiver. I had to turn it way down to accommodate the speakers, but they sounded fantastic when I did. They've only been outside for a couple months, but I powerwashed (carefully) around them a couple weeks ago and they didn't show any ill effects. If you're an audiophile looking for a deeper, richer sound, these might not be for you. However, if you're looking for a great deal on a set of great-sounding outdoor speakers that just won't pump a lot of base, I'd highly recommend them.

Customer Review: Great outdoor speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

I acquired a pair of these when I moved into my new house; the prior owners had put a pair on the patio trellis and wired them into the house.

They're 6 years old and they frankly sound great with rock, jazz, and folk music, which is most of what we listen to. I don't hear much bass out of them, but that's OK frankly, as I don't really want to disturb my neighbors; I just want a little soundstage on my patio so I can relax outside with a book, a drink and a little music. Their mids and highs really have nice fidelity reproduction and it never sounds like a compromise or like a muddy 'rock speaker.' And they have survived freezing temperatures and gale force wind and rain with no ill effects.

Although they are advertised as paintable, I would not consider painting the grill; and as long as the grills are left white, I figured the whole speaker enclosure might as well stay white. We painted the brackets, however, to match our trellis and they look nice.

Customer Review: Good, detailed outdoor speakers
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought these speakers originally as a replacement for a pair of weathered Boston Acoustics attached to our overhead lattice in the back yard. These speakers are very detailed and I can hear components of music within tracks that I would not expect to be able to hear outdoors. Having said that, bass extesion is not great, but, given the frequency range, I didn't expect it to be. I ended up reconditioning the Boston speakers and also hooked these up. The combination of their bass extension (must be 40-50Hz) with the detailed Polks is extremely compelling, making outdoor listening surprisnigly good. Even though one might pay more for the lower extension Polks, it is probably worth it if you like music. These are good for the price, but limited. That's not a critisism, as I knew this when I bought them; I was just hoping physics had changed since the last owner of the house bought the Bostons!!

Customer Review: Great value for smaller spaces!
Summary: 5 Stars

These speakers are a great value for outdoor speakers to be used in a relatively small space.

I have an acre lot with a large backyard that includes both a patio and a screened in porch. I purchased larger Klipsch speakers for the patio and general backyard space and the Polk Audio Atrium 45 All Weather speakers for the screened-in porch. These Polk speakers produce great sound in a smaller speaker and are just right for the screened in porch which is a much smaller space then the patio and general backyard.

If you need to fill a larger outdoor space, I would recommend another set of speakers such as those in the Klipsch AW series.
