Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plustek Opticfilm 7300Customer Review: A few issues, but I'd buy it again. Summary: 4 Stars
There are a few issues, but I'd buy it again. Originally, there was a film alignment issue: the frames had a 2 degree tilt and the bottom of the image was cut off. I probably should have sent it in for warranty work, but instead took it apart and fixed it. Now it looks great. SilverFast works okay, but the scratch & dust removal feature is pretty much worthless. Plan either to upgrade to a more expensive version of SilverFast, or spend a lot of time manually removing scratches and spots. And the scanning process itself takes awhile. If I was scanning professionally, I would not be happy. But the quality of the scans themselves is very good, so for personal use and considering the price, I'd buy it again.
Customer Review: Super at what it does, Good scanner Summary: 4 Stars
I got this scanner to do some slide scanning. I wanted one that would be compatible with 64 Bit Vista...there are some of the cheaper ones out there on the market that are not compatible with it.
I still have more scanning to do, but so far I've been pleased with the results. The software that works with the scanner has a tremendous amount of flexibility (For some that would be translated as "learning curve", but I was scanning pretty quick with the unit.
One thing I did not like however, is that every time you boot up the computer it says that "silverfast" is not found. If the machine is on, this will not appear. This is only an annoyance...
Good unit overall.
Customer Review: Easy! Even a caveman can do it.... Summary: 5 Stars
I Received the Plustek OpticFilm 7300 35mm film scanner a few days after it was ordered for me as a birthday gift; it arrived at my home in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in mint condition. It took me longer to find the instructions than it took to hook it up. I followed the six steps, loaded a 35mm color transparency (slide) pushed the IntelliScan button and saved it to a folder I'd built for copies. The first trial scan was a bit dark, so I used the on-screen adjustments and played for a couple of hours. One thing I should have purchased at the same time was a bulb/brush to clean the film. Some of my slides are 45 years old and are a tad dusty. Things tend to get that way in a den.
Customer Review: Great little Scanner Summary: 5 Stars
The Plustek 7300 is a great little scanner for salvaging old slides.
I bought this about a week ago and have already scanned some 750 or so slides. Most of my slides are old dating from the early 70's.
The scanner and software was easy to set up and install... took only minutes.
The SilverFast SE plus software has lots of capabilities and is fairly intuitive.
I was not impressed with the Demo presentations of how to use the software however.
But figured most of it out by trial and error... still some I havent figured out
completely... but I was able to salvage each and every slide I scanned even though some were badly faded.
Customer Review: Very good Slide Scanner Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the Plustek Opticfilm 7300 to convert my 500+ Slide film library to digital and it did just not disappoint me. The set up was easy-- just plugged it in computer & wall and installed the software. I selected 50 of my most favorite slides and converted them using the "IntelliScan" mode with excellent results. My wife and sons are delighted to see photos taken in the 70's come back to life. They think I am a genius. My only concern is that conversion process is time consuming. At four slides at time, it took me about 3 hours. I have yet to try the "QuickScan" mode which may the most effective way for my less favorite slides.
