Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plustek OpticFilm 7200 7200DPI Film Scanner

Customer Review: Fantastic Unit!
Summary: 5 Stars

Before buying the Plustek Opticfilm 7200, I did tons of research on both flatbed and dedicated slide scanners. After reading hundreds of reviews all I can say is that I was confused whether to go with a Canon flatbed or take a chance on the Plustek.

Well, I took the plunge and bought the 7200. I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION. I love it and for the price, you can't go wrong.

I had it set up and running in less than 5 minutes scanning old musty slides at 3600 dpi ... could go higher but getting brilliant scans with 3600 and, it's quick.

Go for it.

Customer Review: Exceeds Expectations
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many stated in reviews of this item, I purchased it to process thousands of slides I shot from 1965 on. Have tried several scanners in the past; they work but are slow and difficult to use for slides. The plustek scans one slide at a time, rather quickly, too. In the SilverFast-SE software, be certain to set the 'Output resolution" to at least 1800 dpi for best results when zooming in on a slide after it's loaded into your computer's photo program. That will afford good detail resolution. I'd buy this item again, it's easy to use and fully worth the expense.

Customer Review: First class scanner
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this scanner in desparation to try to save some of my slides. Due to my frequent moves I was not able to store my valuable slides properly and mould had begun to grow on some.
The scanner I found was excellent value for money. It was very easy to set up and use even for a non-techie like me.
The quality of the scanned images surprised me, I did not expect to get such high quality digital images from such a modestly priced scanner.
I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it to any photographer who has slides that need to be archived.

Customer Review: Ordered in January; still haven't received it in August.
Summary: 1 Stars

Can't say anything good about something you haven't received. I placed my order five (5) months ago and I'm still waiting for delivery.

UPDATE
Make that eight (8) months ago now and Amazon.com is still telling me that it's still on back-order. Anyone else receive one between 14 January 2010 - 4 August 2010?

Amazon.com keeps asking if I want to cancel my order. I notice the price has more than doubled since I placed the order (was $165.94, now $349.99) and I wonder if that has anything to do with their failure to ship.

Customer Review: Good scanner but ...
Summary: 4 Stars

I had this scanner for about six months before it started to malfunction in that every scanned image had a streak across it. I sent it back to Amazon who were very nice and gave me nearly a full refund. The software that comes with the scanner is great. I was a bit dissapointed that every speck of dust on my 30 year old slides showed up but ... they were 30 year old images and the software does have a handy dust removal feature.

Overall, its a good scanner but I recommend buying the service protection plan.
