Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plantronics UPCALISTO Bluetooth HeadsetCustomer Review: Range and flexibility Summary: 5 Stars
This phone solves all of my problems. The biggest issue I had with all other cordless phones was range. I could never seem to get coverage over my entire house. I have my office upstairs, and a lab in the basement and I could never seem to walk back and forth between the two. This phone works well over every square inch of my house and even out a ways into the yard.
My second problem was talking "hands free". I like to type or clean or walk around while I'm on the phone. Most speaker phones at this price point have horrible echoes, and most head sets don't work all that well - I was always getting tangled in wires.
So now I can walk around the house and answer my cell phone and office phone with one headset. I'm hands free, and no one complains about echoes or volume.
One other feature of this phone that has also proven to be a great asset is that fact that I can integrate with Skype. I use Skype to call internationally and now I don't have to sit in front of the computer anymore. This software was simple to setup, and it works great.
I've had this phone for about 3 months now, and for the price I don't think you can get a better more flexible SoHo solution.
Customer Review: Two for One... Summary: 4 Stars
First the PROS... The Calisto Pro series is an excellent VoIP phone when integrated with Skype. The sound quality is superb. Since it also supports a standard landline it is well worth the cost. The fact that the earpiece is BLUETOOTH compatible with the ability to connect to many BLUETOOTH cell phones is also a nice feature. The battery life on the earpiece is excellent. I've had the unit for three weeks and only when used excessively did the earpiece become low on power. The speakerphone on the handset is very good. The unit and base looks sleek and professional.
The CONS... The call quality and clarity when using the Calisto Pro with a standard landline is inferior to the call quality when used over Skype. When using the handset without the earpiece it is flat, uncomfortable and feels unnatural. Placing VoIP calls with the Calisto Pro must be done from a computer using the Skype or other VoIP software. It does not have the ability to place VoIP calls by itself or to list your VoIP contacts.
I highly recommend this phone. If you can work with its limitations the Calisto Pro is an easy and efficient way to combine the home office landline and VoIP phone.
Customer Review: Not perfect, but pretty great . . . a few nits Summary: 4 Stars
This is a pretty cool phone . . . and I'm a tough critic.
PROS: Sound quality excellent, you can walk REALLY far from the base and it keeps contact, the link with Skype/contact list is cool (but imperfect, see below)
CONS:
-- There is a weird 'lag' when you dial the key pad. Like the processor/whatever can't keep up. So it sometimes misses the first number you dial. I can't imagine why this would plague a modern device. Very odd. I hope they fix it in the next iteration.
-- The phone is linked via USB to your computer so you can talk via Skype and send contacts to your handset. But it would make so much sense (and be so easy) to allow you to DIAL numbers from your contact list. This would be SO AWESOME and so easy to implement, but it's not a feature.
-- The ear peace fit imperfectly, but it works. I wish it fit snugly against my face (if you move the wrong way, it will fall off).
If Plantronics could fix the above, I think it would be perfect.
That said, I am pretty happy with the phone and would buy it again, despite the issues listed above.
Customer Review: At last a truly cordless phone Summary: 5 Stars
I have been waiting for someone to offer exactly this product. All of the cordless phones require that you tether a headset to the handset. Somehow the cord is magically attracted to the arm of my desk chair and hooks around it. The next time I swivel sideways or move away from the desk the headset is ripped from my ear or the handset is dragged to the floor or both happens.
I'm now free from the stupid wire. I can wander around the room without a two foot umbilical cord. Anyone dealing with computer tech support can appreciate how handy this is when you are down on your hands and knees following instructions about plugging and unplugging cables.
It's a slick little package that does exactly what is advertised. There is even a bonus. The same headset can be used with a bluetooth cell phone! That saves the purchase of a separate headset.
The only downside is the number pad and LCD monitor on the handset are a bit small. I can live with it but it would be nice to have a number pad that was not designed for the exclusive use of elves.
Customer Review: Finally - a phone designed for real people! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been searching for years for a phone for my home office that has a speakerphone, cordless handset, cordless headset and supports my phone company caller ID. The professional phone systems I've seen have a clunky handset lifter that is outdated in our high-tech age. Finally, this phone delivers exactly what I'm looking for (well, almost - I would also like the option to have a over-the-head headset, but I quibble). But the best part is that it is thoroughly well-designed. Every other phone that I've had, I needed to keep referring to the user guide to do the simplest of things. But this phone is not only simple and elegant - it's extremely intuitive. Once you open up the Apple-like packaging, you plug it in and it works. When I set up my voicemail and used the included software to transfer Outlook contacts, I didn't need the manual. The ability to use the headset with my mobile phone, as well as answer VOIP calls, make me that much more glad that I finally found the phone that I was looking for. Thanks, Plantronics, for designing a phone that a real person really loves!
