Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plantronics UPCALISTO Bluetooth HeadsetCustomer Review: the fingers can't "do the walking" Summary: 4 Stars
So far, the product is top rated with regards to overall design and purpose fulfillment. I recommend it. My one-person virtual remote office finds super 5-star utility in the sized footprint of the base and overall presentation. The wireless headset has exceptional sound quality. The packaged features and versatility is unmatched. On the "other hand" I, like many people, have a fast and accurate dialing ability developed by necessity, much like actor Will Smith portrays in "The Pursuit of Happyness." Although my fingertips' thickness has some complicity, the true culprit is the technological limitation of the handset keyboard design. Its design and feel is similar to an older cell phone. With reference to an aged Yellow Pages advertisement, I cannot let my fingers do the walking quickly or efficiently. Keystrokes are slowed requiring deliberate motion and added concentration. Productivity is reduced by errant keystrokes, e.g., adding an additional stroke on the same key or typing another key in addition to the intended keystroke. To those of us who consider the value call-volume important, such regular setbacks become frustrating and exasperating. Therefore, the manufacturer should consider a higher tech keyboard design with larger keys and spacing, perhaps a touch screen with a larger LCD screen too that offers larger fonts and better back lighting. All that being said, in sum, the unit is fabulous. The 4-star rating is due to the limitations stated. Contact me when the new edition comes out.
Customer Review: Excellent Wireless Headset Summary: 5 Stars
I work from home and am on the phone often. I needed to replace a wired headset that no longer worked well and I was tired of being tethered to the desk. I read many reviews here on Amazon before settling on the Calisto Pro.
I have been using it for about a month now and am very pleased. People can hear me clearly and loudly. I can hear them the same. In fact, I often have to turn the volume down so callers are not too loud in my ear.
The earpiece stays in my ear well and is pretty comfortable. It's not soft and you can't fit a Jabra gel on it, unfortunately -- that would make it a bit more comfortable. However, I have worn it for hours and there is no pain or anything like that. I just get tired of having it stuck in my ear.
The reception is clear and I don't notice static except if I get pretty far from the unit. Since the handset is cordless, too, it's easy enough to take it with me and then I don't have any issues at all with Bluetooth getting out of range. I have yet to reach the limits of the cordless handset in my traipsing around my house inside and out. Admittedly, I have a cottage, not a mansion :-)
I'd highly recommend this product. I'm buying one for a friend, in fact. Oh, and as a bonus you can use the earpiece with Skype on your computer or with your cellphone, too. Wish there was a way to charge the earpiece away from the base and then I could take it on the road with me.
Customer Review: Best phone I have ever owned! Summary: 5 Stars
The title says it all. The sound quality is amazingly clear and the headpiece fits perfectly. I work from home and this phone has been one of the best additions to my office in a long time. I can wear the headpiece all day without problems. The phone also comes with a fantastic speaker phone on the handset. The menus on the phone are highly intuitive and easy to navigate.
I was able to effortlessly synchronize my Outlook contacts with the included software. I have over 400 Outlook contacts and the phone only holds 200. During the synch process, I was able to select only those entries that I needed (which only came out to 98 contacts!). When I want to add a name, I use the Outlook Phonebook Utility on my laptop and save it (synch) to the phone.
Battery life has not been an issue. I have been able to use it for several days without returning it to the base for a charge.
I had to contact customer service with a question on "Registering the handset to the Base". Everything was working out of the box, however, I wanted to know how to manually register (the manual was not very clear on this). The customer service representative was able to answer my question in minutes. Great customer support.
I only wish Plantronics had a two-line version of this phone. The price tag is on the high end ($249.00); however this phone has been worth every penny. I highly recommend this phone.
Customer Review: Could use some improvement Summary: 3 Stars
I have used Plantronics at work and I have a Plantronics bluetooth for my cell phone so I thought I was going to be much happier with this than I am.
I recevied the phone a few weeks ago. I don't like the headset and would prefer something different. The Plantronics bluetooth piece for my cell phone fits much better.
Withink a few days of purchase I broke the little button in the headset that activates the phone and they had to send me a new one. Warrant service from Plantronics was easy but the headset they sent is slightly different. The old one used to verbally tell me when I lost connection with the base, now it just beeps. Also there is no mute feature on the headset and you have to mute using the phone.
The phone is designed like a small cell phone and I don't like the size of the keys. It's fine when I carry something in my pocket but not at home.
Caller ID does not retain the name of the caller.
I like that fact that I can answer both my cell and house phone using the same headset. I work from home and receive calls on both lines.
It picks up line noise from the fans on my tower PC case. Not bad but I am sure that's where its coming from. A line filter would help.
I think Plantronics needs to do a little work on this before it becomes a great model worth the money.
Customer Review: Good phone with some significant limitations. Summary: 3 Stars
I've owned this Plantronics Calisto Pro cordless phone for about 6 months. It's my 3rd cordless phone which I use at the office on a daily basis. Here's a concise summary of the pros and cons based on my experience:
Pros: 1. Very comfortably headset; 2. Easy to charge both headset and handset; 3. Great lighted LCD display; 4. Handset stays connected to the base at a good distance; 5. Headset stays connected to the handset for up to approx. 30 feet; 6. Very good sound quality; 7. Easy to adjust the volume while speaking.
Cons: 1. Headset disconnects unexpectedly (hanging up on the caller, approximately every 30th call); 2. Small buttons which are tough to read (even though they are lighted); 3. Limited instruction manual; 4. Annoying to hang-up phone (either pressing a small button on the side of the headset or pressing the tough to find button on the handset).
I spoke with a technician at Plantronics regarding the headset disconnection problem. He was minimally helpful, instructing me to re-link the headset and base (even though they are only a few feet apart when it disconnects), which only corrected the problem temporarily.
Overall, it's a good phone with many pros and some significant cons, at a very significant price. My conclusion is that I would not buy this phone again, but will continue to use it for now.
