I had an old $15 Fellowes over-the-ear headset that I've gotten a 5 year life out of - but the wires were going as a result of compression near the jack where they plugged in (I use mine on an office phone with headset jack, not on a cell phone). Read several reviews on Amazon looking for best price for performance looking again to spend in the $15 to $25 range. Bought the Plantronics M220C based on reviews that said it's a solid performer for the price. I have to vehemently disagree. This Plantronics headset has a double-echo, making it very annoying to try and talk. The volume has two settings, + and - (which apparently only affect outgoing microphone sensitivity, and do nothing for headset volume). While others could hear me fine, this set did not have the perception of being full duplex, that is I could not perceive hearing myself talking when I talked (which I could with my old headset) - perhaps this was due to a delayed double echo effect. The maximum volume was still very low for hearing the other people on the phone. The clarify of the low volume was also muddy - poor tone and not accurate. The in-ear portion is made entirely of hard plastic with a large diameter that was both difficult to accurately place in my ear and also too large to be comfortable - felt like it was stretching my whole ear open and I still could barely hear. I don't have petite ears, either - I'm a 6' 2" guy. Lastly, the over the ear piece is bulky and tight-fitting with no adjustability (other than right/left), resulting in ear pain & soreness within the first two minutes of talking. I am extremely disappointed with this product, and am in search of another Fellowes to take it's place - in my better the superior brand by a mile! I really wanted to be one of the ones to reinforce the value of this product, but alas it fails on all headset points. This product comes Extremely NOT recommended.
