Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plantronics Foldable USB Stereo Headset (Optimized for Laptop Use) (Audio 470 USB)Customer Review: Excellent for Dragon Naturally Speaking Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this headphone specifically to use with Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, which works like a charm with it.
I did have one problem, which was my own fault. On the headset, there's a little silver microphone on the on/off switch. So that's where I set it, and spent a day and a half of total frustration because Dragon could not understand me. My grandson finally took a look and pointed out that the little silver microphone has a tiny line through it, about the size of a hair. I'd had it turned off the entire time, even though Dragon said the sound quality was good. The "on" side of the switch is blank, which seems backwards to me. Anyway, now it works great and I love it.
Customer Review: Good sound and microphone quality Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned this microphone headset for a couple of months and used it for speech recognition and to watch movies/listen to music. The sound is better than I expected. I have had no issues with speech recognition either. It seems to perform pretty well.
The headset is very lightweight, which is good, but I am a little concerned with the plastic it is made from. It appears to be brittle, which could be a concern in cold temperatures. It folds up nice, but I would recommend being very careful where you store it. It could get damaged if stored, let's say, in the front pocket of your laptop case. Mine has held up fine, but I rated it 4 stars just for the reason above.
Customer Review: I think mine was defective Summary: 1 Stars
I tried it with Ventrilo and used the "test" feature to speak into the microphone and listen to how I sounded. I heard plenty of loud, crackly, electronic static, and my voice was unintelligible. It was completely unusable. I'm not sure if this was just a fluke, but it was very annoying. I will return it tomorrow.
Other than the fact that the one I got did not work properly, it was nice that the part that goes over your head was adjustable (basically making the ears lower or higher), and it was not tight-fitting or crushing on the ears at all. If anything, it was a bit loose. Also, the in-line volume/mute was lightweight so it wouldn't pull down on the headset.
Customer Review: Excellent microphone Summary: 4 Stars
I compared the performance of this headset against two others in my arsenal, and the quality of the sound/microphone is far, far superior to any other headset I tried. Speech is just far clearer. (I played the other two headsets into the USB sound card that comes with the Plantronics headset, so it was a fair test. I recorded my voice and played it back with all 3 headsets.)
I would have rated it 5 stars except that the folding mechanism of the headset is a hassle...it needs a way (besides tape) to keep it from folding on its own or flopping around at the folding joints. But, even with that difficulty, it's probably the best headset you can buy for the money.
Customer Review: Plantronics headsets are the best Summary: 5 Stars
Pros: Comfortably fits on my head. Cord is long; too long is good you can cable tie it, too short is unusable if the PC is too far. USB dongle soundcard installs well with Vista and is interchangeable with ANY other mic/speaker. This makes it so that if you have a bad soundcard or no soundcard, this will replace it. IT folds neatly for travel. Vol control and mic mute on the cord.
Cons: earpads are very flat and firm, so it hurts the tragus and antitragus of my ear since mine stick out a little bit. Fluffier earpads may help that but there are no replacements in the box.. and thats just a con if I want to be picky because I really like these headphones.
