Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plantronics DSP-400 Digitally-Enhanced USB Foldable Stereo Headset and Software

Customer Review: Great headset!
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this headset to replace an annoying logitec model that I suffered with for over a year. It's been a wonderful change. I don't have to constantly wrestle with the mouthpiece, it fits comfortably on my head, and the audio quality is great. I use it mostly for Skype to call back home to the US from the country I live in, and it works wonderfully, but keep in mind, Skype will still be Skype and call quality will vary no matter how nice of a headset you buy. But at least with this headset the inconsistencies are a lot fewer and farther between.

Downside - I'm not sure why they even bother marketing it as a portable headset because even folded up it's pretty bulky. I'm not sure how it actually holds up when traveling, it seems like it might break easily. Otherwise, I'm very happy with this headset and would buy it again!

Customer Review: Your average headset...
Summary: 3 Stars

Good quality, a totally geek look, bulky and flimsy.

Sound and mic pick up everything.
It makes you look like a telephone operator or a nerd playing on WoW (perhaps like me).
The DSP box is huge for what it's supposed to do.
The compact folding is flimsy, when you set the headset down and it starts to fold back up.
I have speakers and use a headset. So I have 2 sound options, problems can occur.

USB function, I particularly do not appreciate enough. The USB sound controls my external speakers and NOT just the headset. Analog may not be as clean, but it is definitely more controlable. And they used to make one that wraps around the back of the head.
Find a cheap analog Plantronics. I had one before for 19.99 and it lasted me about 2 years, but I tend to be rough with my things.

Customer Review: Great for voice recognition
Summary: 5 Stars

Someone in an earlier review rated the DSP-400 headset as useless for voice recognition. Not sure what his technical problem might be, but Dragon rates it as "6 dragons" on its hardware compatability list which is the max, and I have bought two of them...at different times...one for work and one for home since I was so pleased with performance using two completely different types of PC's, memory size, etc. It works great for me at least. I am a long time Dragon user, and this is the best headset I have tried. So beware the "worthless" review. Picking the right headset that works with your particular system can be iffy...but I have two of these headsets and I couldn't be happier with the recognition voice quality. (I use Dragon Preferred Version 9 at the moment, so I can't say whether a different version would affect performance.)

Customer Review: Two thumbs up headset
Summary: 4 Stars

The Plantronics DSP 400 is the only headset I've ever purchased, so I have only my expectations with which to compare it. I intended to use it only with Skype and only with my desktop. I now use it for all audio for my desktop and laptop. The DSP 400 received sound quality is great and the people I call report a clear signal even though my upload speed is south of 300kbps. The DSP 400's volume control, mute switch, cord length, and headset comfort are 5-star. I frequently transport the DSP 400 and really appreciate its fold-up feature and durability. Beware, however, of bumping or dropping the signal processor box during a conversation because that will terminate a call. Check around for prices because the high/low price ratio is nearly 2/1.

Customer Review: Awesome Headphones
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the better headsets Ive owned to date. I play HL games and this by far is the best one for voice communication yet! Very clear, and no background noise or static at all. Very comfortable and the sound quality is awesome. the only problem is that it is foldable so it fold on you whren trying to put it on from time to time, but otherwise, it geta A+s all around. And for less than $45, it is a great deal compared to other high quality mic headsets. And trust me, I spent a lot of money on other headsets, logitech and cyber acoustics (well CA was pretty good too, but too expensive for the good pair so this Plantronics if worth it), but no one is such a good pair for such a good price. Recommend for all gaming and/or internet calls/chatting!
