Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plantronics DSP-400 Digitally-Enhanced USB Foldable Stereo Headset and Software

Customer Review: Good functional product but my head is killing me
Summary: 3 Stars

The quality of the sound is excellent, volume controls are convenient, length of cable fine, etc; but the physical headset leaves a lot to desire for.

Headset is uncomfortable, pointy, sharpie and not made thinking on the physical comfort of the user. Some of the issues are:
1. The thin axle that holds left and right side together slips out and needs to be pushed back in coastally.
2. The joint were the left and right halves divide in half again uses a screw for pivot that put pressure on the user's head (very painful).
3. There is not way to go to Plantronics website and place a complain, or request some type of help from customer service for the product. I tired.

If I could I would have it replaced because I need to have this thing on my head all the time and by end of business day I either have a headache or feel so light weighted that I feel could fly.

Customer Review: Great!! But need little improvement..
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought dsp-400 to use SKYPE and play online games like Counter Strike. The quality of sound is great and in gameplay wise, u can hear any footsteps or any gun sounds from distance with perfect quality.

Like others have said, the few problems with dsp-400 is the really long cable with sound card box on the line. The idea of folding headset is very unique. But with long cable, it is not meant to carry other places, and I almost break the headset when I tried to unfold the folded headset. When dsp-400 is in folded form, it just seems so fragile.(Thank god for 1 yr warranty..)

Overall, it is great with the price that cheap, but i would recommend dsp-500 for gamers seeking for headset. This headset is not bad in games, but dsp-500 just picks the sound better than dsp-400 due to ear-covering design. Ppl who are just looking for it to chat online, this is great stuff to have.

Customer Review: Great headset
Summary: 4 Stars

Sounds quality is fantastic, works great with softphones (Skype, Gizmo, etc.) and works very well for just listening to music.

Pros:

It folds, isn't too heavy, and has plenty of cord length.
The sound quality is amazing for the price. It would be amazing at twice the price!

Cons:

The folding mechanism is a little fiddly; be careful not to break it at a joint as it pivots.
The cord between the DSP dongle and the headset is long and thin. I keep a supply of velcro straps in my laptop bag to 'right-size' long cables, but it's still a pretty thin wire.
I would love to see a protective carrying case; I'd even pay another $5 for a good one.

I have told a lot of people about this headset, but the best way to persuade someone to get one is to talk to them on it with a VoIP phone. Then tell them how much you paid for it.

Customer Review: What are the other people talking about?
Summary: 5 Stars

This headset is very good. The usb connection is so relable and fast, unlike the analog connections on normal hearsets that require 3 plugs (right audio, left audio, mic)! This is great if you don't have a sound card. The audio quality is very good too. I listen to music, play games and watch movies. The mic is handy in games that I play like The Specilists, Counter-Strike, and Day of Defeat. The sound quality is beautiful and gives me the chills when I play games like Deus Ex Invis War at night. The robust booms of mortar fire rock my world in Call of Duty. My friends sometimes don't even have their mics on because their mic analog plug is so far from the other sound plugs. Sometimes I wonder why I got my soundblaster audigy 2 soundcard and 6.1 mega works speaker system, o ya, for parties, duh! Anyways, this is a great headset, I don't quite know why the other have experianced what they have.

Customer Review: Great Headphones
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using these headphones for 3 years, and I am just now replacing them. I used them for gaming, VOIP, listening to mp3s, and believe it or not some voice recording. They have been great! They've been tossed around the room a few times and still appear like new. The first complain I have is about the spongy microphone cover falling off, it always did fall off and was annoying to keep putting back on. Also its dying now, one ear doesn't work, and the other is slowly fading and cutting in and out. So it lasted a very solid 3 years. It has a very high quality microphone, but the audio isn't the best, it gets distorted on higher volumes, but then again my set is old and I don't quite remember what it was like new. Overall, it's a fantastic set of headphones, and I'm buying a new set of Plantronic headphones (DSP 550s) to replace this one... it deserves a proper burial ;)
