Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Pioneer PDP-5070HD PureVision 50-Inch Plasma HDTVCustomer Review: Well worth the extra money Summary: 5 Stars
First off, I need to let everyone know that I ended up buying this TV at a local store and not from Amazon. I'm writing this review because I used reviews on Amamzon to help me make my buying decision and am appreciative of the reviews from other buyers during my research.
Bottom line is, as one other reviewer stated, you get what you pay for. I took my three small children into a local electronics store and, while standing in front of a wall of TVs (both plasma and LCD), asked them to pick the TV with the best picture. Not surprisingly, they all picked the Pioneer. Anyone who has kids will tell you that they REALLY say what they think.
TV has the best picture by far. There's no comparison to the LCD TVs either. Don't let anyone try to tell you about LCD longevity or picture quality. I can easily see pixelation in fast moving images when I was checking out the 1080P LCDs. There's also alot of talk concerning plasma burn-in issues. This may have been an issue in the past but I've had no problems at all. During the first 100 to 200 hours of viewing, just go to user-defined settings and dial down the brightness and contrast. Also, go with power set to "save2" and avoid stationary logos as much as possible. After this break-in period, you put the settings to whatever you like.
Absolutely five stars.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT TV- Great support from Amazon Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this TV from Amazon few months ago- I was very skeptical to buy such an expensive TV on line- I did a lot of research and was debating between this one and the Panasonic 50 inch- My brother had the panasonic and I wasn't impressed with the picture. I wanted to buy an LCD but a good 50 inch LCD is very expensive. This TV was a good intermediate- I saw it at the store and was amazed by the picture. SO I decided to buy the Pioneer- I received it about a week later and did not have any problems with Eagle carrier- They were great and very friendly- The TV was good but I noticed a stuck pixel (blue dot)- I called Pioneer and they said they would only replace it under the warranty if the TV had problems with more than 10 pixels. So I e-mailed Amazon and they replaced it for me, no questions asked. They were really good about it and I got my new TV a week later. The same company delivered it and picked up the old one- I havn't had any problems with the new one yet- The picture is AMAZING! I have it hooked up to DishNwetwork and the HD channels are unbeleivable. The regular channels are not bad either- The sound is not that great so I would recommend a good sound system- I would definitely recommend this TV and I would definitely recommend Amazon as well. It had the best price and great customer support- I am Overall very satisfied.
Customer Review: Excellent TV and Experience Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first review I have ever written.
First of all, I was struggling with having such a large, expensive and seemingly fragile purchase shipped to my home versus driving my truck to the local store and picking it up myself. The cost difference between Amazon and the local electronics stores was just compelling enough to bite my fingernails for a week waiting to see the result. At delivery, the packaging looked like it had just come from Pioneer, perfect with barely any scuffs on the cardboard. A credit to the transportation companies used by Amazon. I really was not sure what to expect, so I had planned on not signing the form until I had removed the packaging to verify the unit had no signs of damage. The final delivery company, Eagle, brought the unit inside my home, unboxed it, and verified the unit was in perfect condition - it was quite impressive, and took all the burden off of me to force the issue. Overall, my biggest fear (shipping) of buying from Amazon is now gone.
Second, the TV is incredible. Go see one for yourself among all the other TVs available, and see where your eyes gravitate to. This unit is more expensive than the most popular Panasonic units, but quite worth it.
Hope this was helpful. I'm off to buy more stuff at Amazon.
Customer Review: Best Plasma for the Money Summary: 5 Stars
I did a lot of research before plunking down the cash for HD technology. I first saw this set in a Best Buy and was blown away by both the picture and the price (I hadn't checked Amazon's prices at the time); I did not think this would be the set I would eventually purchase because it was out of my budget.
I wanted to stay away from Sony because of their prohibitive prices and because of some negative experiences I've had with some Sony products of late. This Pioneer was highly rated by CNET and Consumer Reports and other Amazon users. I was concerned about the shipping, but Amazon's White glove service was exceptional as well as FREE! Best Buy charges for delivery and the set was over a thousand dollars more.
One year later the set suffers no burn in and this is significant because there is an XBOX 360 connected to it AND we watch some standard TV, but I stretch the screen to avoid the "Gray Bars" and therefore also avoid the burn in problems as well. It does run warm, so in the summer you will notice it, even in a large room (14 X 26). If I had to do it all over again, Pioneer would still be my choice and so would Amazon, this model has been replaced by the PDP-5080HD and is $1400.00 more at Box Stores.
Customer Review: 720p never looked so good Summary: 5 Stars
I wavered between the new 1020p 50-inch plasmas and this one and decided on the Pioneer after looking at the different setups at Best Buy and looking at reviews on Amazon and CNET. The new Panasonic 1020p has a brighter picture but it's a lot more money. So I bought this on Amazon even though I was leery of purchasing such an expensive and large item online. I've bought plenty of items over the years on Amazon but nothing like this.
I was impressed by the Eagle delivery (it arrived in 3 days under free shipping; the guy brought it into my house and helped me set it up). I set it up to make sure it wasn't damaged, that everything worked and there were no dead pixels. Everything was perfect.
It's a better picture than what I saw at Best Buy, where it was displayed next to other high-end plasmas and LCDs. Higher priced 1020p plasmas and LCDs have a brighter picture, but under normal viewing circumstances when you are 10-plus feet away from the TV, it's hard to see much of a difference between a 1020p and this Pioneer in sharpness, contrast or rich color. So if you are a videofile, 1020p's will go down in price in 08. But if you don't want to wait and want to save some money on a high-end plasma, this is hard to beat.
