Customer Review: Iphone Bluetooth Connectivity Issues. Terribly Complicated!
Summary: 2 Stars

This unit was just installed in my 07 Toyota tundra. I have an iphone 3gs with the OS4 system. The bluetooth has SO many issues with this operating system. Pioneer MUST have a firmware upgrade VERY SOON or they will have lots of problems with angry customers!

I will warn you that the iphone 3gs with OS4 system WILL HAVE PROBLEMS connecting with Bluetooth!

That being said, the interface for this unit is horrendous. It is terribly complicated, and i had to read the online manual about 50 times for each function. I am barely a 10th of the way through it. So do be aware that you will have to be very patient to overcome a huge learning curve. I rate this unit a 2 of 5 for the reasons i have listed.

The issue i am having currently (6/30/10) is that the bluetooth handsfree calling works perfectly and auto connects every time i get into my truck... but the the AUDIO STREAMING through bluetooth will NOT auto connect. I must do it manually every time the headunit gets shut off. This is very very annoying.

Pioneer is "aware of the problem" and has done nothing and gives no helpful advice. Apple is aware of the "general bluetooth issues with OS4" but has not given any advice that is useful at all.

Buyer Beware! Caveat emptor! Iphone will have problems with bluetooth connectivity.

Please reply to this review if you have any other questions regarding this issue, or if you have any solutions.
I will also reply to my own comment if i have any updates for you.

Thanks, and good luck!

Customer Review: worst car radio i've ever had
Summary: 1 Stars

This is the first Pioneer i've ever had, always heard they were good. I've had several kenwoods and other brands. I liked the features on this unit, so I bought it and also the xm option. I loved it the first 3 months, but then the bluetooth phone feature locked up in the receiving mode. I couldn't even change to xm or ipod, had to turn the car off and restart to use the rest of the radio. I tried everything to reset it (reset the radio, deleted my phone and re-paired it, factory reset, removed power for 30 minutes). Took it to the "factory service center" stayed their two weeks and finally the next week, they sent it to the factory. Stayed there for six weeks and returned..... couldn't find a problem. I reinstalled it and to my suprise it worked, I know it will happen again there was a problem. Now I can be listening to xm and the radio will "click" and change to the ipod music. It does it everytime I get into my car. I have gotten to the point where when listening to radio, when the music stops I reach for the mode button and hit it four times to get back to the xm radio. I hate this radio......... I would just smash it with a hammer on youtube, but I have the $100 xm radio option too. I ever can get customer service on the phone, maybe they can give me another one. It only has a 12 month warranty and it has already been out of my car for over 2 months.
There are alot of radios out find another one besides this one. Wish I had.

Customer Review: i did my research too
Summary: 5 Stars

I shopped around, read reviews from a ton of sites, read the specs back and forth and even compared stereos from different sites. There were a few things that I was looking for when it came to investing into a new stereo for my car. It needed to be able to play multiple audio files, have some type of bluetooth capability for my iphone.

I know that some bluetooth products are incompatable with the iphone and this stereo works out perfectly. I just installed it a few hours ago and have been playing around with it. so far, so good. It was my first attempt at installing a car stereo and I must say, it was fairly simple. I have an 08 toyota matrix and had to use all the adapters that came with the installation kit (which CRUTCHFIELD) was generous enought to give me for free.

They didn't fit perfectly, but with a few simple mods of my own I was able to install it just fine. the mic that it comes with is 13 ft. long and i hid it behind my rearview mirror with excess cord.

I highly recommend this stereo if you want an all-in-one product. what drew me to it was the blue tooth connectivity already built in to it. no $200 bluetooth kits needed and it connected very easily.

It's a great product for a great price with lots of options that I haven't even looked into yet (aux, subs, etc...) but know that if I upgrade my system that I'll be able to no problem. Not to mention that it's one sexy piece of work.

Customer Review: Lots of Stuff but a little complicated
Summary: 3 Stars

I own a Nissan SUV that came with the double din, I wanted to install a stereo that would not stand out, yet seem elegant... I accomplished the first thing, the second one.. still not sure. In the Amazon's pics it seems beautiful, but in reality, is not quite stunning. The buttons seem a little hard and as I said the material doesn't help, its all hard plastic. The wheel, which is the best physical feature responds well, though on the Ipod it kind of has a lag reading the playlist or songs info.
For me, the best Pro that this stereo has is all it does (CD, Mp3, Ipod, USB, Bluetooth), I have an Iphone, iPod integration is a deal-breaker, and this stereo performs. whether you want to control it through Bluetooth audio or using the usb cable it works nicely. Contact sync on the Iphone does not work at all though, it says that the phonebook is empty, so haven't enjoyed that feature. Receiving calls and dialing through the remote could be nicer. The voice call sound is very good and I guess the mic works flawless.. Havent been told to shut the speaker mode yet.

The main con is that the stereo is not quite user friendly as it should be, I'm still trying to figure out a few things.

Basically I find the radio a little overpriced for what I seem to be enjoying, it does offer all this stuff that I wanted to have in a stereo, but the interface could be different, I personally hate the fact that the screen looks like an 80's stereo..

Customer Review: Nice double din unit, but complicated programming
Summary: 4 Stars

If you read all the reviews on this particular unit, you will find that folks like it, but it is not the easiest unit to setup and program. My feelings are no different. It has lots of capabilities built in, but to master that technology, takes some time and perseverance. And it doesn't help that the manual is on a CD, so you have to either print out the page you need or drag a laptop out to the vehicle.

The sound quality of the unit is very good. I really like the bluetooth interface with the phone, mostly. I have it set up to automatically answer my phone after a couple of rings. Dialing out is another matter. Most of the time, I manually dial the phone. Still haven't figured out dialing from the system. It does display the incoming number, but since it will answer the phone, you cant screen the calls. At least you know who's on the other end.

I usually play music off a thumb drive. That seems to work well, though navigating through all the folders can be somewhat laborious. The little remote is handy, actually quicker than using the center knob on the radio.

Display is blue, no ability to change it or dim it. God help you if you have orange backlighting, it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Bottom line, you need to be a techie or be on good terms with the house techie if you want to get the most out of this stereo. It is that complicated to set up.
