the battery backup is only good for when the power comes back on, then your clock and alarm is reset, if the power goes out & stays out when your supposed to wake up your out of luck, the alarm will not sound even with the "battery backup". Bought this for our baby's room so we could pay CD's when he goes to sleep. The CD play stopped working after 11 months. I made sure it was not the CD itself and it wasn't. Also put a few different CD's in and the unit just spins and starts to play for about 5 seconds than the CD just stops.
I would not recommend this since it cost so much. If you really want a CD, go to BigLots and buy something from there 1/2 the price.

What I really like about this CD/Alarm clock is that it is easy to set.
I like the dual alarm options and the sound is impeccable! After trying several other inexpensive brands, only having to return them later for various reasons...It is great to finally have one that works well...The alarm, CD, etc...I can clean up around the house and play my favorite CD or relax at night without waking my little one! I'm LOVING THIS ONE!

My husband and I bought this for our infant's room to play soothing CDs when she was upset. We used it everyday for about 2 months and then only used it about once every other week. We tried to turn it on tonight when our daughter was fussy and the CD player won't read any CD. The radio has a weak reception, so now it is just an expensive, bulky clock. Really pleased and enjoy this CD/Clock radio. Use it when we go to sleep at night playing a favorite CD. If any complaint it would be the fact that the alarm won't wake up to the radio if a CD has been played and allowed to automatically shut off. You have to manually select radio and if you've gone to sleep with the CD how would you select radio for the morning alarm.....
