Customer Review: Died after 5 weeks

Worked great for 5 weeks then the screen went black. Tried a reset, but could not transfer pictures to the frame, so then I tried a compact flash card. It worked for 10 minutes then the pictures went away and the frame started rapid cycling (uncommanded) through some of the menu screens. Then, it died again, black screen, won't turn on or off, the power button lights but that's all. Called Philips, they were very nice and they are sending me a new one but it looks like, they have some problems or a bad batch of units. I paid extra for the Philips name, hope they come through with a good one.
UPDATE: The replacement unit, which was remanufactured here in the US has been great. It's almost a year old now. No problems at all.

The four-way control button worked erratically on the first one I received. I called Philips, and they sent me a new unit immediately - allowing me to return the original one after I received the new one (with a credit card in case I did not return the old one). The new unit works perfectly.
The features are excellent - we love its ability to automatically turn on and off at specific times. The picture brightness and viewing angles are great.
I recently had a chance to work with another brand of digital picture frame, and in comparison, the Philips controls and options are MUCH better. So, I highly recommend this product - both for its features and for the support Philips offers to products under warranty.

Purchased 2 of these photoframes, one to keep and 1 as a gift. The one I kept was first loaded from a SD card, and since there's no remote control for the frame, fumble with the buttons on the back to get the pictures installed. Next I tried to load via a PC and that's where the real problems began. Getting rid of a default folder proved impossible, error messages for corrupt files or full memory became the norm no matter where I tried to load pictures. The best I could do was 14 jpegs via the PC. The Phillips software is very primitive, not user friendly and basically useless. The documentation is also deficient for average users (like me)! For the price, a terrible deal. Returned mine. (Haven't heard about the gift. Afraid to ask!)Customer Review: Good gift idea, needs time to figure out

The first impression was -- it's heavier than i thought. Frame itself is sleek, display area big and nice, picture quality is good, and the slide show function works great. Connection to my PC works well, no software needed (I am running windows XP). Great gift for grandparents to admire a lot baby pictures at a time with no fuss.
Downside: the buttons on its back are not easy to handle, manual is very basic. The way display albums arrangement is a bit confusing, and when picture size is bigger (than 800K?) it's slow to display, takes up to 5 seconds more to show. Also, the plug position is poorly designed so when plugged in (USB and power cords) it's not easy to stand still itself.

This is the Mercedes Benz of digital picture frames. I purchased one for my wife as a Christmas gift for displaying pictures of our grandchildren. The resolution is far better than anything I have reviewed. In addition to the resolution, it is simple to setup and change the photos for display. We have since bought two more for the grandmothers. I received one of a different brand for Christmas and there is no comparison, the Philips quality is far superior. I have one complaint, not with the product but with the delivery time. We have yet to receive the third one purchased [..] and still shows on my order for[..]thru 23rd delivery.
