Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Philips 7-Inch LCD Digital Photo Frame (Black)Customer Review: Horrible. If only I had read the reviews... Summary: 1 Stars
Horrible. If only I had read the reviews...I would never have purchased this item.
Let me start by saying I work in technology, so I know what quality and simplicity should look like. I was hoping for a fair quality, simple to use picture frame to give to a moderately computer savvy relative for Xmas.
Reasons not to buy this:
-Display quality is poor:
Mine came with several pixels dead, right out of the box.
-Navigation is awful:
The buttons are on the back, and you have to look at the front to see the menus as they change. You end up feeling around back there...its not good.
-On Board Memory is useless:
It contains sample photos that cannot be deleted (the infamous baby from other reviews) and which continually display along with your photos in the slideshow.
-Widescreen Display is awful:
If you are scanning old 4:3 aspect ratio family pictures into this 16:9 ratio frame, you get two choices: diplay them with black bars to the sides or stretch and distort them. Neither is terribly attractive.
After two hours of scan then crop of the family photos, I put this thing back in the box, and bought one of the kodak easyshare frames.
In summary, I would not recommend this device to anyone who is not an expert at manipulating photos, and even then be ready for the time commitment.
Update: The kodak easy share frame is working out great! Highly recommended as an alternative.

Customer Review: Not too good . . . Summary: 2 Stars
The picture quality is OK, nothing to write home about. I bought this model mainly because of the sentence from the product description here at Amazon that says it has three timers to turn it on and off. Not only does it only have one timer (no weekend timer like advertised) but that timer initially would not work. Turned out after much frustration that and time that the english version of the manual has a translation error. Rather than simply saying "turn on" or "turn off" the settings say "start dim" or "end dim." And the meaning of those prhases are opposite their normal meaning. The one timer included in the settings does work though, but I would have preferred separate weekday and weekend timers as advertised.
One thing everyone should know about all digital frames is that you should resize all your pictures to the frame's native resolution - this one is 480x234. I used a free photo editing software called faststone - and not only does resizing make your pics fit the frame, but it drastically reduces the size. I fit 4000 resized pics onto a 2GB SD card and it barely used 500 MB. Just be careful not to replace your full size images. Copy all your pics to another directory and then resize them. As far as this frame goes, I will keep it but I wouldn't recommend it. I think it is over-priced.
Customer Review: ehhh... Summary: 2 Stars
This was my first experience w/a digital picture frame, and I thought to myself, it should be easier than this. I just wanted to put a couple pics on this for my Mom as a mothers day gift. I didn't want to leave a memory card in the thing the whole time so I decided to use the onboard memory. Well, there is no way to write to this memory using the USB cable. I thought this would be a common feature to include, but anyways, I ended up transferring photos from a USB thumb drive to the photo frame. That worked alright, but as mentioned by someone earlier, Phillips included a picture of a baby on the internal memory that cannot be deleted. I happened to have an old SD card left over from a previous digital camera, moved the pics to that, popped that in the photo frame and mission accomplished. There is no easy way to delete(or transfer)multiple photos from the frame itself. Only one at a time. And you have to confirm TWICE before it deletes anything. I would think a digital photo frame would have some of the basic features that most digital cameras include (they are around the same price) but I guess you get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Overall Not Bad Summary: 4 Stars
Not a lot to add to Mark's review. Overall I like the frame. I picked it up in a Goldbox special.
Pros:
- Clear Picture
- Nice color
- "Radiant Color" is nice for normal ratio pictures and preferable to "black bars" or distorting by stretching.
- Dim Timer is nice option to turn off at night.
- Integrated reader for variety of media
Cons:
- Wide screen - I don't know about anyone else but very few of my pictures are widescreen.
- Hard to find some "features". For example setting the frame to not stretch non-widescreen photos is off of the "setup/background" option. Not very intuitive.
If you are looking for a simple digital phone frame and this is on sale, then definitely consider. However, I'd buy an extra memory card with it if you don't have one, so that you can leave it in.
Customer Review: Resolution is the Key Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this to give to my wife as present. Its a strudy frame and browses the media library with acceptable speed. Menu choices are kind of unintuitive but gotta get a hang of it before you you know if you are going in the right menus to do what you want to do. The turn off on this one is resolution. You can see the pixles in the image even if you are standing 3 steps away and I dont know for what reason they chose the wide screen format (that could be only food for stills taken from HD video cameras). So you gotta set the choice for original aspects instead of stretching the picture to fit the screen and then, you will have black stripes on sides. The only thing I can justify to myself for this, was the price, I got it in 50 bucks. My advice: spend a lil more to get higher resolution frame than this one to get your money's worth.
