Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Philco TB100HH9 Digital to Analog TV Converter BoxCustomer Review: Works GREAT! A+ Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this converter after A LOT of research from several sources. I read both good and bad reviews here at Amazon and over all thought it would be worth trying out. I live in a downstairs apartment with no outdoor antenna and only 1 major TV channel(Fox) available 35 miles from me. I began to worry when I spoke to another tenant here that stated they got a very expensive converter and antenna and received 0 channels. This was AFTER I had already ordered my converter. I received the converter today, used my coupon on Ebay and got it for $15.00 (including shipping).
After some of the horrible reviews here about how hard it was to set up and how terrible the remote was, I was worried and carefully followed the directions. First of all it was extremely EASY to set up! You'd have to be brain dead not to be able to figure this out. Secondly, as far as the remote goes, I have had much WORSE remotes from DVD players, this one is NOT that bad. It's actually bigger than had been reported here by some reviewers.
I set up the converter, turned it on and received 1 VERY CLEAR Local Fox channel. I didn't think I'd even be able to get that since my neighbor, who spent much more for his converter couldn't even get the one 1 local channel. I really only wanted the one local channel anyway for news and weather. I'm using a Terk TV1 rabbit ear antenna with the box. I'm very happy with what I'm getting. Also you have to be aware that you can only get digital channels available in your area. Everyone's going to get different results according to their area.
I did learn one very important detail about this whole digital experience. You HAVE to check and see what digital channels are available to you in your area by going to [...] I kept reading reviews from people early on in my adventure of digital TV, saying they were getting 6, 12 and more channels than before with analog. I got very excited and thought I would get a lot of channels to. As it turns out, my area is only currently receiving 1 digital station and it's 35 miles away.Although this converter takes care of both digital and analog, we never did receive any analog channels to begin with, so I'm not surprised we still don't with this box. 3 other stations are set to change over in June, so I hope to get 4 total once they switch over. Until then I am stuck with just the one. Some people are even giving negative feedback saying they are only getting X number of channels and I wonder if they have even checked to see which ones they should actually be receiving. Also...The channel numbers are NOT the same with digital as they are with analog or cable TV. You HAVE to check to see what number it is for the digital converter. For instance...the one channel we receive used to be channel 2 on our local cable listing, it's now 43.1 on the digital listing.
I highly recommend this converter...it WORKS...and the remote is NOT that bad! Don't be afraid of this item.
