Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Peerless SF640 Universal Fixed Low-Profile Wall Mount for 23" to 46" Displays (Black)Customer Review: good quality - adjustable side to side Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this mount after trying 2 different ones purchased at big box stores. I needed to center my LCD between the bathroom and closet door in my bedroom. Most of the other mounts I found only anchored to a single stud & had limited ability to adjust side to side. I found this surprising, because even in a large room, your eye can easily tell if a TV is not centered. If you're only choice is to mount to studs on 16" centers, how is that supposed to work? In my case, none of the studs was even close to the center point between the doors. This mount anchors to two studs & has several inches of side to side adjustment. It is very solid & comes with a good assortment of hardware for the different VESA mounts (mine was 200mm x 200mm). Tightening the set screws was a little tedious as another reviewer mentioned, but it's a one time thing so not a reason to avoid this product. This does not pivot or tilt, but I wanted a flush mount anyway. I would recommend buying one of the recessed outlet plates that has a 120V outlet & an opening to pull your cables through for a clean installation. Haven't done that myself yet, but I plan to.
Customer Review: **Beware of LCD Size** - Deceptive Product Description Summary: 1 Stars
Serves me right for not reading the reviews and warnings from the other Amazon customers out there, but as others have stated, the item clearly listed as "Peerless Universal Wall Mount for 23"-46" Flat Panels" DOES NOT FIT most 42" and above LCD panels.
The Peerless and Amazon description giving the 23" to 46" range and calling the item "universal" is totally deceptive. They are doing a terrible disservice to their customers, many of whom will not realize that contrary to the item description, the wall mount is not compatable with their LCDs.
There is no disclaimer on the Amazon web page at the time of ordering (save for the other customer reviews). In fact, the Amazon web description touts it as supporting "virtually any 23" to 46" flat panel screen"... but when the product arrives and the small disclaimer on the instructions sheet reads "most 42" and larger screens may not work with this mount", you've been duped and have wasted your time and shipping money.
Customer Review: UNIVERSAL is NOT Universal... Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased this on February 2, 2009 from Amazon - great service from Amazon. Received it in two days.
Problem #1 - our studs are 18 inches apart, but the spacing on the wall bracket is only for 16-inch spacing for wall studs. I can only hope that mounting it onto one stud will provide sufficient strength - but I cannot tell because it isn't mounted yet...
Problem #2 - I own a Vizio VX32L LCD TV. It requires the M8 1.25mm screws to mount to the wall. This size screw is not included in the Peerless kit, and if you buy them at your local hardware store, guess what - the vertical brackets groove isn't big enough to accommodate the screw. So, I'm pretty much "screwed".
I may try and drill the grooves out a little to give them enough room for the mounting screws, but I'm not sure if I'm going to mess with it or not.
Be careful - just because it says it is universal does NOT mean it will work with all TV's.
Customer Review: Check first if this product will fit your TV Summary: 3 Stars
It's easy to be misled about the word "Universal" and the TV size it's supposed to fit with on most online wall mount descriptions. Problem is that I only found out after getting this product that it doesn't fit my 42" Philips LCD model.
One kudo to Peerless is the ease of using their web site to check by manufacturer and model. That alone made me give them 3 stars instead of 1. I've looked at other manufacturers and their web sites have the bare minimum info which is far from adequate. I was able to find the right model for my TV after entering that info onto the web site.
So to all those shopping for mounts, I cannot stress enough how important it is to double-check the width of the mount (see Tech Specs) to see if it's longer than the mounting position on the back of your TV. Check the manufacturer's web site too and hopefully it'll have good info, a few of them I looked at didn't have any useful info.
Customer Review: (More than) Does the job! Summary: 4 Stars
Very sturdy. Made in U.S.A. Easily holds up our 32" LG and I suspect it could support a much larger and/or heavier screen.
The only con I can think of is I wish they supplied the hex key without a right angle (i.e., just a long hex bar that could be rotated through the fingers), because it's impossible to simply keep turning it. In other words, there's not enough clearance next to the wall. And because it's such a long screw and it's so dark up there, it can take some time to keep finding the screw head each turn.
Also, recently I upgraded my DVD player to an HDMI-compatible one, and it was necessary to take the TV off the mount to plug in the cable. There was no way to access this while it was still mounted. Perhaps this would be an issue with other mounts as well.
Otherwise (and indeed, in spite of this), I would have no hesitation buying this again for another set.
