Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Peerless SA740P Articulating LCD Wall Mount for 22-40" LCD Screens (Black)Customer Review: Best wall arm for the price and beyond Summary: 5 Stars
The major factor I purchased this wall arm was the price. After I spent $1000 for a LCD TV I wasn't about to spend another $300 for a wall mount. When I saw this mount I was quite skeptical since from the picture it didn't look all that sturdy. However, all my concerns vanished once I installed it.
Wall mount is very well build and feels tough. Furthermore, once I installed it I let my 3-year old hang on it (she weighs 35 lbs) and the mount was hanging dead on. I even hanged for 10 second (I weigh 200 lbs) and no reaction from the mount. What I like the best about the mount is that once TV is installed you can move it anyway you want to: tilt, move horizontally side to side, and extend horizontally. Being able to adjust TV horizontally is the best part because walls in my apartment are very old and when I installed the wall plate it was skewed about 3mm to the right so this adjustment allowed me to compensate for my mistake.
If you are looking to hang your LCD on a wall, don't look any further than this wall mount. For the price and quality it's the best one out there.
Customer Review: Tips About Mounting Screws Summary: 4 Stars
I read in several Amazon reviews that it would be much easier to connect to the wall stud using hex head screws instead of the included Phillips head screws. They were absolutely right. I had to go to a full service hardware store (could not find them at the big box home improvement store.) I found exactly the same length screws already painted black with hex heads. In northern California, they are available at Orchard Supply Hardware.
I also checked my electronic stud sensor readings by nailing small finishing nails into the wall to determine the true stud width. This is a reliable way to be sure you have found the true center of the stud. The stud sensor was slightly off, so I was glad I checked using the nails. The nail holes are hidden by the base of the wall mount when the job is done.
Using a socket wrench the screws are easily fastened to the stud. The final mounting is very sturdy, supporting a 40 lb. 37 inch LCD TV. I would have rated it five stars if the manufacturer had included hex head mounting screws.
Customer Review: Can get almost the same thing for half the price on Amazon! Summary: 3 Stars
The SA740 (also made by Peerless) is just slightly more than half of the price of this model! The only difference is that this model extends about 3.5" more away from the wall than the other model. Other than that, they are exactly the same! It's hardly worth the additional money unless you have a specific need to extend your TV away from the wall a maximum distance.
I bought this and I am sort of sorry I spent the extra money on it (at the time I was unaware that the SA740 was also being sold on Amazon for so much less), but I am too lazy to send it back and wait for the replacement to arrive. It's still quite a bit cheaper than buying a mount from Circuit City or Best Buy.
I also found out that I needed an additional $80 adapter plate for my Sharp 32" LCD TV. Without the adapter, this arm is useless! Another reviewer mentioned this as well on Amazon. Unfortunately, I didn't read his review prior to buying so now I am waiting an extra week for the adapter plate to arrive.
Customer Review: Great device Summary: 5 Stars
Putting a large sum of money into a flat panel TV was always a bit unnerving, but to try to hang it on the wall with a flimsy appearing bracket didn't set well with me. After reviewing comments here, we bought the bracket (at a very good price compared to other providers) and were very pleased with the quality of construction, brevity of well written instructions and ease of mounting. Once my son and I were reassured and re-reassured we had the center of the 2x4 stud located, two holes and a little screwdriver action and we had the mount up in less than five minutes total. Two more minutes with the bracket on the back of the TV (our Toshiba fit perfectly) and then using both of us to hang it carefully and secure with a screw, and we were done. I was prepared to take hours to do it correctly and it fell into place beautifully.
Very smooth finish, heavy duty appearing without being industrial (sleek is the word I'd use) and it does exactly what we wanted it to do.
Customer Review: Peerless Articulating Arm LCD Mount (SA740P) is the Best Summary: 5 Stars
Open the box, the bracket was small sturdy and easy to assemble. I was a little concerned since the bracket is held to to wall by only two screws, but they haven't budged under the weight of my 40" Toshiba. My only concern with this purchase is that you need to determine if there is a stud directly where you want this mounted. In fact, the stud needs to be off by a couple of inches from the vertical centerline of the LCD/Plasma display. In my case, the stud was almost but not quite there, so my TV is not centered on a wall space between two vertical door mouldings. It looks slightly awkward, but it's a tradeoff that's worth it. The setup looks very clean and getting to the connectors on the Display is a dream. I had centered the display previously using a universal wall mount, but it looked horrible. the display wasn't close to the wall, the end brackets were visible and the connectors weren't easily accessed. BTW: Amazon pricing is the best you'll find anywhere on this item.
