These are single fiber cables, not the high quality, multi fiber ones that cost several times more. These work fine for short distances, but you may loose some sound quality if you try to use the longer ones. I used 2 of these off a splitter to two receivers. The input cable that I used was a multi strand fiber cable. These worked fine for my application.Customer Review: A Real Bargain

I never understood why one piece of flexible glass cost so much more than another. If they both transmit light and have decent quality connectors attached, why pay more? I bought a few of these cables and each one has performed just like the four expensive-brand cables I bought in the past. Don't buy into the expensive cable hype. This cable works as well as a more expensive cable, except it has a slightly odd shaped connecting end. The cable works fine with my PS3, my DVD player and my receiver, but for some reason it will just not connect rightly with the XBOX 360. It seems like it is missing the right molding to snap into the 360's optical output port.Customer Review: High quality - low price

Compare this cable to a $20 dollar cable (same length) sold in a fancy box with a equally fancy brand name, then ask yourself if you notice any difference.
It will cost you $24 total to compare, then you'll start ordering all of your audio cables from parts express and you'll save a ton of $$ in the future.

It gets the signal from one end to another (in my case dvd player to receiver) and that's all you really need in digital world. The rest is on your components.
This one is cheap and works exactly the same as any other optical cable would (not better, not worse - EXACTLY the same)...so, why would you pay more?
