I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this product.
I have been using standard analog hookups for my HD dvd player's Dolby Digital and DTS sound until I received this item. The cable is just like the seller describes on this Amazon page...3 foot fiber optic sound cable.
And well, I plugged it into my HD DVD player and into my DTS Receiver--the set up was instant. ONE CABLE for all 7 channels and when I plugged the first end into the HD player, the other end of the cable LIT UP with a little red light so it was easy to see where to hook up the other end in the receiver. The optical sound is its own flashlight basically--and as soon as both ends were plugged in, instantly, I had to turn the sound from my original settings at 10 decibels to 3 decibels, because the optic sound was blasting out my speakers. The cable itself is 3 feet long and about 1/2 inch thick, and it comes with the optical tips covered by a sturdy plastic cup guarding the tips till you can hook them up. The cable itself is strong enough to withstand long-term use unless you have children pulling out your cables constantly. But from what I have seen, I feel it will maintain for years to come.
Seriously, it is TRULY an AUDIBLE MIRACLE from standard connections. For a mere $4 dollars(shipping included, it was the best money I ever spent! I have never heard such GREAT sound before!!!I highly recommend this! In fact, I love it so much I sat right down and wrote this review not one minute after hooking it up!!!
Customer Review: VERY poor quality - tip broke off in my audio switch device

I rarely write a review, but this product warrants one. I warn you not to buy it. I don't know about the quality of the optics but I had no complaint about the sound transmitted. However, when I removed one end of this thread-like cable from an optical switcher, the covering of the optical fiber tip broke off and remained in the switch. Besides leaving the cable's fiber denuded and exposed, this made it impossible to place another cable end in that receptacle of the switch. It took me over an hour and a trip to a hardware store (to purchase a miniscule screw) to successfully remove the broken plastic cover without damaging the switch.
This whole experience is exactly the reason not to do what I did, which was to save a few dollars on a piece of s___ and end up almost ruining a valuable component of my AV system.
I recommend the TOSLink cable supplied by Amazon for about $6 or $7--that is dirt cheap enough, right? It does the trick and is of much better manufacture.

Ok, I read countless reviews from buyers and sellers both about different cables. Everyone said Monster cables aren't worth the money, that sound travels just as fast through one as the other...well I'm here to tell ya that's not why buying cheap is a bad idea. This cable doesn't "Click" into place, and I read the other reviews that said that, and thought "so freakin what?"...well, that means your cable doesnt stay in at all. I had to tape it to get it to stay. Its a fundamental flaw in its design. And, since the connection is weak, the sound is weak and crackles in and out often. I'm pretty mad about it give the time and money I've spent on my sound system and this was my last loose end. So, I beg you...don't buy this POS. Yes its 3 cents or whatever plus shipping so its like 4 or 5 bucks, but I'm telling you, go spend the money on something in the $15-$20 range and your stuff will boom.Customer Review: Fabulous find

The cable is great. Everything seems to be working perfectly. I was a little discourage to spend more $$ to buy yet another cable to hook up all the things that came with the new flat screen TV. But I refused to pay the $50 for the one I found in the store was willing to gamble on the $3 with shipping on this one. Once I realized there was a cap on the end of the cable everything worked great. I didn't come with any instructions or pictures and I didn't look at the expensive cable that closely before I tried to hook up and I began to think it wasn't going to fit. The cable we received did not have a cap with a holder on it like the one in the picture does now. But I am thrilled that it is working.Customer Review: GREAT VALUE!

Remember that an optical cable only carries light. Don't fall for the M.C. brand at the big-box electronics retailers on an item like this! The weak link on this very cost-effective cable is the connector. But I, like most of you plug it in once and forget it. This cable works great for that. If you're constantly unplugging and swapping cables, then get a higher quality cable with better ends. Otherwise, this will do the trick! It works great to carry the DIGITAL OUT from my PS3 to my old-school (read: one optical digital input!) Denon 5.1 surround receiver. Oh--the cable is inexpensive, but brace yourself when you see the shipping charges! Even with the high shipping, it remains a great deal.
