Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm 3169WW Universal Wireless KeyboardCustomer Review: Turns my Treo / Palm into a Laptop Computer! Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is great! I've been using it without any troubles for many months, and have found the keyboard to be nearly equal to a normal computer keyboard. It is built solidly, and is easy to open/close/set up for use. The space bar is split, which took me some getting used to, and the question mark is in a different place, which can be a bit of a problem until you get used to it. Infra-red connection, so no wires. I can fit this into my pocket, along with my Treo, and be ready for conferences, note taking, and whatever else. I have not tried it with any Palm-Based word processing programs, as I do not use those on my Treo, but for those times when you don't want to carry a laptop around, it certainly fills the need for a full-sized keyboard. A quality item, well worth the money.
Customer Review: User Friendly Keyboard FINALLY! Summary: 4 Stars
After trying a few keyboards with my Tungsten E, I found this one to be user friendly ... at least for adults. It allows you to access the number keys & special character keys just like a regular keyboard (no need for function keys in awkward places). It also has blue icons above the numbers to automatically access Palm home, contacts, calendar, memos.... when you simultaneously press the function key. There's a programmable command key which when pressed with a number will open whatever application you wish. You can orient your Palm vertically or horizontally. So what's so adult-friendly & not so kid-friendly (I'm using these with 3rd graders)? Opening it. Rather than pull it open, you slide it open. To close it, you need to push a little release button. For me, I love it.
Customer Review: Nice, Convenient Keyboard w/Almost Full-Size Feel Summary: 4 Stars
This is, overall, an excellent keyboard. Allowing the little TX to function practically as a laptop if a pretty brilliant piece of engineering. Once I figured out how to use it, it has worked flawlessly.
The main thing is the almost full-size QWERTY keyboard with a very good feel. Some of the things like quotation marks are not laid out like the real thing, and this is where I take off a star in the rating.
Otherwise, it does work very well. I don't see it as particularly flimsy. Is it built like a tank? No, but it's not flimsy. I got it free in an Amazon deal with the Palm TX, so I can't complain anyway, but even if I had paid the $45 that Amazon normally sells it for, I would think that it is worth it for what it allows me to do, and conveniently.
Customer Review: Avoid it with your TREO 650 Summary: 1 Stars
Avoid this keyboard if you have a Palm Treo 650. When you press a key there is often no response. I found this to be particularly the case if you just finish typing a sentence and pause for a couple of seconds. It seems to work fine if you don't pause (provided you get it to work). The space key and the shift key (as well as some letters such as "a") are particularly prone to this problem. After a brief pause sometimes I have to hit the space key 5-6 times to activate it.
I read a review by someone else who has the same problem with another keyboard. Iused to own a docking keyboard from Palm for my old Palm m500, and it was extremely reliable. This one is very frustrating! I'll return it to Amazon right away.
Of course it is possible that I have a lemon.
Customer Review: Wireless keyboard for Palm Tungsten E2 Summary: 4 Stars
I love it!!! I have small hands and am used to a compact laptop keyboard, so I am not overly bothered by the small range of this keyboard. I downloaded the drivers from the Palm Website, so I did not have some of the software issues described by others. (That's because I read the reviews before buying the product!)
The way of opening the keyboard is a bit tricky. The top needs to slide one direction (right, I think), which means that the bottom needs to go left. I found that if I squeeze the device slightly, it slides much easier. The opening mechanism takes some getting used to.
With an expandable SD card, I am able to leave my laptop at home, type my documents, and download them when I get home. Really a savings of weight.
