Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm 3169WW Universal Wireless KeyboardCustomer Review: impress your friends, take notes, but drain the battery of your axim. Summary: 4 Stars
I have an Axim x51v. This is so cool that I have folded and unfolded it like a million times already. Folded, it is small and protected from harm. Unfolded, it locks flat and I can even use it on my lap without another surface. It works in landscape and portrait. Installation of the software took literally 1 minute. The space bar hinge was annoying at first, but I got used to it. You just have to slow down and adjust at first. There are a lot of useful shortcuts built in. (they are different depending on palm v ppc) to add things like bullets or to open certain programs like word. I did notice that my ppc lost power a lot quicker while using the keyboard, but I feel like you can't get around that really with any keyboard. If I'm wrong correct me. All in all good choice. Fits in my purse, wows my friends, helps me take notes in class. worth the 30 bucks I paid for it. (used)
Customer Review: Happy with it Summary: 4 Stars
I've been pleased with the keyboard...
* It's a reasonable size for me to touch-type quickly and reasonably comfortably. I wouldn't want to write the great American novel with it, but for note-taking at meetings and email-correspondance it's fine (better than I expected for something that folds into such a compact size).
* The driver headaches that earlier reviewers described sound horrible. And Palm support is... well, do they even have tech support? But, I didn't have any problems. I ignored the instructions on the box (which don't list the Palm TX yet), downloaded the most recent driver from the Palm site, and it worked with my new Palm TX without any trouble at all.
* Ultimately, between the Palm TX, this keyboard, and my bluetooth-enabled mobile phone I end up with a net-capable setup that I can carry in my pockets.
Customer Review: Big improvement over text entry with stylus Summary: 4 Stars
So much easier to enter detailed/extensive notes (which I do a lot of) than screen punches with the stylus. However, keyboard easel doesn't accomodate the power and communication cords on my Palm TX all that well: they cannot be used at all when the PDA is in the vertical position , and when the PDA is on it's side, its curvy shape makes it unstable when I do have to use the stylus--which is necessary since some operations cannot be controlled from the keyboard as far as I have been able to figure out. Then, after I use the stylus, I have to reposition the PDA so that it is back in communication with the infra-red sensor on the keyboard.
That said, I will absolutely keep it for travel note-taking! Very convenient size (about the same dimensions as my TX) and, once you figure out the open/close routine, a nice little accessory.
Customer Review: Got me through college! Summary: 5 Stars
I got an HP iPaq RX1955 for college. I got this keyboard to go with it. Obviously it was much lighter than a laptop and I only needed something to "punch out" my notes on as my professors rambled. Other than constant inquiries of my gadgets, it was a complete hit. Once everyone got used to my 'not a laptop' sitting on my desk, it made a great way to do homework, take notes, and even just chat while on the go or while waiting for the next class to start. My only complaint was battery replacements. The batteries do seem to last a while, but with lithium-ion batteries and charging capabilities there should be no reason to have to switch out batteries like that. Also worked with my Mogul a couple years down the road! I'm just super disappointed it doesn't work with my Curve since it doesn't have an infrared port :(
Customer Review: palmOne should be ashamed... Summary: 1 Stars
I have been using the Palm IR keyboard and a Tungsten T3, but frustrated by the missing number key row. I saw this keyboard and it looked impressive. Unfortunately, I did not see the bad experiences with the driver and the "white screen of death", so I too experienced it. A call to the PalmOne customer service only infuriated me-poor communication skills, zero technical help other than to tell me that the Palm had to be returned to the factory. Palmone knows about this problem, and has no warning on their download page. Fortunately, I found the Palm Forum topic on how to partially disconnect the power and reset the Tungsten. After resync and reloading all apps, the Tungsten is working again, but not with the new "Universal" wireless keyboard. Shame on you palmone for your lapse in quality control...
