Customer Review: Klutzy
Summary: 2 Stars

The one thing I can say for this little contraption is that it works--sometimes. But it doesn't secure the handheld into position very well. The little support bar that the handheld is supposed to rest on continually retracts, causing the handheld to fall out of place. I have to keep the handheld in place with a strong rubber band--and even then it can shift around. Also, the arm that houses the infrared (IR) sensor keeps going out of alignment with the IR sensor/transmitter on the handheld.

One nit: I wish Palm would've called it an IR Keyboard. Technically, the product is indeed wireless. But folks today generally associate the word "wireless" with Bluetooth or WiFi, which implies that you don't have to strap-in your handheld and make sure the IR sensors are aligned. Sure, IR has an advantage over "wired" keyboards in that you can use it (kinda) with a wide variety of handhelds. But if you only have a single handheld, a "wired" keyboard would probably be much easier to use.

Customer Review: Expands usefulness of PDA
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this item new hoping it would it would free up a lot of desk space when all I needed was a simple platform to type notes into. I'd read many reviews and was prepared with a downloaded driver. When the keyboard arrived I installed the downloaded driver on my device and was able to work instantly. It works great and many menu commands are placed right on the keyboard for easy access. My only complaint would be the location of the "?" key, which is a key that deserves proper placement as it is used often. Instead Palm jettisoned it way off to the side to make way for arrow keys that do seem to get a lot of use with this application. I'm really happy with my purchase and think it is something anyone with a PDA should look into, as it is a good simple way to have typing convenience without wires and a lot of desk space. BTW, I'm someone who's hands tend to cramp really easy using a normal mouse, yet this keyboard hasn't given me any trouble to speak of yet.

Customer Review: Keys work great, though not ergonomically designed
Summary: 3 Stars

I purcahsed this keyboard for use with my Palm Tx to write e-mails and documents as doing so by hand can get tedious.

In its folded form, the keyboard is about the size of the PDA with case, and is completely enclosed and therefore durable enough to stuff into a backpack.

Opening it is not intuitive, but after about three times, works well. The design, though, seems a bit flimsy and awkward. The back support for the PDA is at an angle that is too deep for proper viewing when set on a table. The infrared light is set on a flimsy beam that must be bent in order to rotate. The PDA also does not fit tightly into the support. The keyboard is also impossible to use on a lap.

The keyboard, though, is a good size and if on a table, is easy to use. All of the keys of a full-sized one are available. There is sufficient tactile feedback. It serves its function as a keyboard, but a better design is required.

Customer Review: Not bad.. not bad at all...
Summary: 4 Stars

I was a bit skeptical about buying this keyboard, as there were many more out there by Palm -- but just a bit on the more pricey side.
This keyboard (at a very good price) is great. Works well on my Palm T/X and couldn't complain about the quality. It works wirelessly and allows you to use the Palm T/X on landscape mode, which in my opinion, makes the whole set-up MUCH nicer.
Only drawbacks are that it is smaller than a standard size keyboard -- not good for clumsy fingers. and that the "?" key is definitely located on the wrong side of the "shift" key. Very odd.
Oh, and DO NOT use the installation CD supplied with this product. Download straight from Palm's website under the "software" category. Trust me, you'll thank me!
Overall... great product (especially for the class go-er who wants to take notes on a small set-up without using a laptop/notebook), great price (well under $100), and durable.

Customer Review: Great, unless your fluorescent lights are noisy ...
Summary: 4 Stars

I am now really happy with my wireless keyboard, which I use with a Tungsten T5. But I went through 3 hours of agony with Palm tech support trying to find out why the Palm froze every time I turned on the keyboard driver. The symptoms were terrible-- the Palm just wouldn't work with the keyboard driver turned on, and sometimes I got so far as to get the screen turning totally blue little by little. Tech support couldn't solve the problem, but I finally figured out that the keyboard would work if it is away from my desk-- and realized that it will work if it is not under the fluorescent light over my desk. If the light is off, it works every time. If it the light is on, the Palm freezes solid every time. The keyboard & Palm work fine under other fluorescent lights, but not this one, which must be emitting electromagnetic noise, maybe due to an old ballast. So watch your fluorescents, and then enjoy the keyboard.
