Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm 3169WW Universal Wireless KeyboardCustomer Review: Great Keyboard...when you figured it out Summary: 4 Stars
The keyboard is great, stores easily and great for the classroom or to create a portable mini office. First thing: DO NOT USE THE DISK!!! Download your drivers from the Palm website. You will need the driver that is meant for your model. I have the Palm TX.
Second is that you need to play around with the commands on the keyboard to get it to work. The infrared eye is on the arm. If you flip it up, you can use Your Palm in portrate mode. If you flip it down, you can use the Palm in the right-handed landscape mode. They don't explain this anywhere in the directions.
If you have large hands, this is not a keyboard you would like. It's not quite a full-sized keyboard.
If I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure it out, I would have given this keyboard a 5. With Documents to Go, you need to add in a command key so you can go straight to that program without using the stylus pen.
Thank you to everyone else that added your comments. I learned more from all of you than the so called directions. The only reason why the direction book is so large is because it's written in several languages.
Customer Review: Best Keyboard I've Bought Summary: 5 Stars
I read the complaints about this product, and frankly I was worried. When it arrived, however, I found it to be the best keyboard I have bought. I should note that I have a T5, not a T3, which people have had trouble with. Also, I have noticed that when the keyboard is activated on the handheld, I sometimes bet buggy behavior from the Palm, but I have noticed that it only happens in the computer lab where I teach. The school recently put in all new "power saving" flourescent lights that seem to drive the IR port nuts, but that's not Palm's fault. I blame the annoying, expensive lights! Everywhere else, the keyboard works flawlessly. The design is solid, sturdy, and easy to use. Most impressively, however, there is no lag between keystroke and entry. I have never had a PDA keyboard that performed so quickly! I had just learned to accept the fact that I would have to type slowly, and go back every 10 keystrokes or so to fix the missing letter. Not with this little wonder! Typing is flawless! I cannot say enough good about this keyboard. If you have a T5, don't waste your money on one of the cheaper models. Go for this one!
Customer Review: Not compatible with Tungsten T2 Summary: 3 Stars
The description of this keyboard on Amazon states "Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard, compatible with all current Palm handhelds, including M130, M515 &". That led me to believe it would be compatible with my T2. When I started to use it I quickly found out that when the T2 automatically powered down, I lost my connection to the keyboard. It was usually very difficult to re-establish, even though the keyboard application says it is ON. It does not seem possible to completely turn off power saving on the T2, only to change the time, so this is a serious problem. I would have given the keyboard 5 stars if had worked with the T2. I really liked it while it was working for the brief periods before a power down.
Upon checking the compatibility matrix for this keyboard on the Palm website (oh why didn't I do that first?) I see that the T2 is not compatible. Amazon needs to provide more compatibility detail in the description. I suppose you could narrowly define "current" as items for sale, but the m130 and m515 are not shipping anymore are they? I am returning this keyboard, which Amazon is taking back to their credit.
Customer Review: keyboard shorts out Summary: 2 Stars
i currently have three of these keyboards. i loved them for their ease of use and long battery life. my problem with my first keyboard started about a year after purchase when different keys stopped working on the right side. if i moved the keyboard around i could sometimes get it to come back but it got worse and worse. thinking that this was a fluke, i bought another one and within the warranty period it also had the same problem and it was as though the keyboard shorted out along a line of keys from top to bottom. i called customer support which less than customer friendly or supportive, but they ultimately determined that it was a defect of the keyboard and not my palm tx and sent me another one. i used that one for about two months and it began to do the same thing. i have done absolutely everything to the keyboard, and my palm to try to rectify the problem with to no avail. i absolutely love, and depend on this keyboard daily, when it works, and take great care of them, however they all died the same death. disappointing.
Customer Review: New and improved Summary: 5 Stars
A very good keyboard that doesn't take very much space when folded, but unfolds to an almost full-sized keyboard. The interface with my device (Palm TX) works very well. I had some small problems in the past using the previous wireless keyboard from Palm with my Tungsten T3, but this works as a dream. Some improvements from the old model:
-A fourth row for numerics
-The IR-arm swings from the right and if you have a PDA that supports landscape viewing and has the IR on top, then you don't even have to release it
-The keyboard now locks open so it doesn't fold on uneven surfaces (still, you won't use this in your lap unless you have something solid underneath it)
-To save on keyboard batteries you can now switch the keyboard off even when it is open, just slide the PDA-cradle to the left along the keyboard (may sound strange to anyone who hasn't seen the unfolding solution). When slid into OFF the folding lock also releases, which I like since the unlock button isn't very handy.
