Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PNY P-FD1GBATT2-FS 1GB Attache USB 2.0 Flash DriveCustomer Review: Too Fragile Summary: 3 Stars
Despite my care in handling this drive, it snapped on me within a month of ownership. It appears as if the actual hardware inside the clear plastic casing broke loose, rendering the device unusable. I thought it was just my bad luck until I saw from these reviews that others have had similar experiences with this product's flimsyness.
The drive contained years of work and if I hadn't backed up the files regularly on my other computers, I would have been utterly devastated. I actually purchased this product AS a means of backing up my original works.
I was generous in giving 3 stars simply because UNTIL it suddenly broke, and IF it continued to function as intended, it's actually a pretty decent little device. I would recommend storing it in a box lined with cotton if you want it to last longer than a month though.
If you decide to buy this product, DO NOT primarily depend on it. ALWAYS back up whatever information is on it. I personally would not purchase this product again, it's just too fragile and I don't trust it.
Customer Review: Cheap functional flash drive Summary: 3 Stars
Every human being should have a flash drive.
with that said I've had this drive for about two and a half years and it still works despite the broken case. The innards come out when i pull it out from usb ports, so i have to stuff it back in after removal, this is due to normal use nothing extreme. I find it kind of charming though, I'm always a little afraid whatever I've just saved on it won't be there next time, the lanyard is good even if the drive were to fail and be careful not to lose the cap. Of course you don't get your full gig because of formatting so i recommend going with a 4gb U3 Smart drive for functionality because in this day and age 990 or so megabytes is kind of small. Personally I've gone from the 1gb PNY to a 4gb Sandisk smart drive to a 16gb Patriot flash as prices have fallen.
If you're just keeping small unimportant files to travel with, on a drive you don't mind losing then this is for you. This is a cheap functional drive and every computer literate person should have something like it.
Customer Review: Decent flash drive but with bad case design Summary: 3 Stars
The PNY 1GB is probably worth the current discounted price. I've previously bought 512MB and 1GB PNY flash drives.
Probably you'll find this drive to be durable, as fast as most, and nice looking.
Unfortunately, for PNY, they skimped on design of the case and its cap. It won't take long for the case to begin sliding off the electonics housing. Not a really big deal since nothing is exposed, but it's an unecessary inconvenience which can be remedied by placing some adhesive on the electronic component and sliding it back onto the sleeve. The cap, however, is another story. It's loose fitting and does not snap on; you know, that satisfying yet subtle "click" that tells you it's secure. Not a big deal if you don't plan to put this in your pocket or purse, but PNY could have avoided this.
For my money, I'd buy a Kingston 1GB Data Traveler II. It's fast, well priced, attractive also, and has none of the case design issues mentioned.
Customer Review: Excellent Flash Drive Summary: 5 Stars
This is a high quality flash drive. It reads and writes files fast,is EXTREMELY DURABLE, and comes with a neck lanyard with a quick-release snap. I frequently work with video files, so the quick read/write is crucial. Also, I tend to be a little rough with it; it has been dropped many times, stepped on, and even been thrrough the laundry. And it has kept on working (had to dry out overnight first, after I put it in the laundry accidentally). The cap fits on reasonably well, but slides on instead of clips on, so it may becomse loose over time, but this hasn't happened to me yet (I've had the drive for 4 months). I have had no problems with reading or writing data, no issues with data retention either.
The ONLY issue with this drive is that the cost can be around double that of cheapo competitors. However, the drive's quality makes it well worth the price. If you want some cheapo drive, look elsewhere.
Customer Review: DID THE OR LESS Summary: 5 Stars
I got this Flash Drive for a specific task and the reason I wanted a small capacity one. It was to make a Bootable drive for flashing my BiOS to one that was unlocked. It formatted well and in fact was able able to boot to Windows 98 ( Flash is a DOS Utility ). Got al the information on it, but haven't attempted the actual flash yet and am in no hurry to do so. Tried it once with another flash drive and it didn't work, but didn't brick my Motherboard either. Seeing as how my usage will be limited, it should do just fine. From what I've seen from the reviews, it appears that they were subjected to constant use and possibly some rough handling, which will not be my case, so, as I said, it should be fine. I have used PNY Memory as well as one Video Card in the past and they have been good.
