Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Philips USA PH-62050 CD/MP3/MD-To-Cassette AdapterCustomer Review: Good performance but poor durability Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this product about six months ago, and I have been generally satisfied with its performance; however, about a month ago it developed an audible squeak whenever it was operating, and recently it jammed completely so that when I tried to use it the cassette player would auto reverse a few times and finally spit it out. I took the cassette apart to clear the jam, but within a few minutes of use it had jammed again, and I finally gave up trying to repair it. I used the product practically every day in the time I owned it, so I can't really say I didn't get my $15 worth, but I'm still disappointed that it died so quickly.
Customer Review: Suprisingly Good Summary: 4 Stars
I'm pleasantly suprised at how well this works in the OEM Alpine in my 2000 Jaguar. I had intended to hack up the un-used CD changer for an aux input but this sounds good enough that I probably won't bother. I listen primarily so Slacker streamed over my Blackberry, so I'm never going to get audiophile quality but it sounds far, far better than an FM adapter. Better than straight FM radio too, which I did not expect.
I do hear the mechanical clicking other reviewers have mentioned but it hasn't bothered me enough to investigate.
Also worth noting that I found the identical item at WalMart for $9.88.
Customer Review: Good value & performance Summary: 5 Stars
I got the Philips Cassette Converter to run my iPod Shuffle in my '96 Saab 900 with factory equiped stereo and it works beautifully. Yes, it is true that the signal is not very strong, so you have to turn the volume up a bit, but even the little Shuffle can compensate for it and by no means do you need to fear forgetting to turn the volume down when you switch to Radio or CD. The sound quality is as good as the iPod delivers and you have no disturbing background noise. I also had no problems that the deck would eject the tape. I can recommend this product and it's good value for money (I didn't try similar one)
Customer Review: works perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
I was concerned that this cassette adapter would not work in my car's cassette deck because of the auto-reverse feature, over which I have no control, but that is no longer a concern. I have a 1995 Saturn SC1 with a factory tape deck. There is minimal noise between tracks and I can hear no noise when a track is playing. The cord is even in the proper orientation for my deck, so I didn't even have to mess with changing it... plug and play! I have had it for only a couple of weeks, so cannot yet speak to its longevity, but it seems sturdily made. If it turns out to be short-lived, I will update this review.
Customer Review: It is a cassette adapter Summary: 4 Stars
This is pretty much what I expected. It works reliably with the tape deck in both of our cars, no issues with the autoreverse (our old tape adapter started triggering the reverse constantly).
The tape does sound a little muted, like another reviewer said "sounds like the dolby filtering is always on", but I can't be sure whether that's specific to the tape or to my truck's (Ford F250) factory tape deck.
Ultimately, the radio should be replaced with one that accepts a true auxiliary input to get decent highs and bass response... but you probably knew that already :)
