Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Philips USA PH-62050 CD/MP3/MD-To-Cassette AdapterCustomer Review: Great adapter! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this adapter for use in my 2000 Ford Expedition, with my Zune HD.
Knowing that it would run through the tape deck head, I figured I would be sacrificing a fair amount of audio quality, but this device proved me wrong.
Now, while I never listen to cassettes, my vehicle is old enough to have a cassette deck, and being OCD, I do clean the heads at least once a year. Whether or not that makes the difference, I don't know, but this adapter does the job, and does it quite nicely!
My deck seems to run a bit hot for some reason, and the label (this side up), buckled a little after a 6 hour trip from CA back home to AZ. Caused no problems with playback or when ejecting, but think I am going to look into either removing it, or fastening it better somehow. Frankly, I think I will just remove it, as it is painfully obvious which side is up, and how the adapter is to be inserted.
I also purchased the Powerjolt Dual Universal 2 USB Blk Car Charger, for use with this adapter while traveling long distances.
It too does a fantastic job of keeping my Zune charged while playing, and charging my sons Zune at the same time. ZERO worries about the Zunes dying in the middle of a good road trip playlist!
Anyway, I highly recommend this device for those that have older vehicles with tape decks, and no MP3 port on their current head unit.
Customer Review: Sound quality greatly reduced Summary: 3 Stars
I just bought this device from Walmart yesterday for $9.88, and I must say that I'm disappointed with the sound quality. Both CDs and cassettes in my 2005 Grand Caravan normally play with premium quality. However, since my van's audio system doesn't have the jack for me to connect my new Sony Walkman Mp3 player to, I thought this would do just as well, but I was mistaken. I don't have any of the noise issues other reviewers have complained about. It's just that the quality of the audio is pretty lame coming thru this device. I was expected a bit of a reduction in quality, but I didn't expect to hear lyrics muffled and an out-of-balance bass problem (even after I adjusted the tone and bass on my car stereo system, it still didn't compensate for the loss of clarity, and the inability to hear the distinguished stereo quality highs and lows that I'm used to hearing from my Sony Mp3.) Now, maybe Sony has spoiled me over the years, which is why I've ordered their version of this cassette adapter. I want to see if I can get a better result before taking this Philips adapter back to Walmart. I will be following up with another review once my Sony adapter arrives.
Customer Review: Worked great...for awhile. Summary: 2 Stars
When I bought this product, I loved it. Sounded great, no problems, right? After a few months having the tape converter in my car, the sound from the tape started to get lower, and lower. Now when I pulled on the cord of the tape converter that's in the stereo, the volume would kick back up...for awhile. When the volume gets really low, I would pop out the converter from the tape player, and the radio would be BLASTING! Put the tape back in, and the volume would be extremely low. Now I know its not my mp3 player, since when I pulled on the cord to the converter, the volume would jump back up. This is the fourth time I replaced mine for the same reason.
But this is the only converter that works without spitting the tape back out. Why can't they make something guarantee to work perfect...instead of these cheap o' products under $10? I would love pay $20 for one, if it promise to be the best...but good luck finding it.
Customer Review: Not worth my money Summary: 1 Stars
It works intermittenly, but mostly just auto-reverses and pops out of the cassette deck when I want to listen to my music. I called Philips for help and they had the worst CS I've ever had to deal with. I have worked CS so I know how to be a good customer calling with a problem and how the person on the other end of the phone has to put information into their terminal to get it to spit out an answer on the other end. Well, three times I had to give the man on the other end of the line the product number, which he kept repeating back wrong and I corrected. finally, he seemed to give up on even finding the product and listened to me explain the problem. He automatically blamed my cassette deck and told me to take it up with the manufacturer on that end. Then he stated it was probably due to too much drag. Well, then Philips, your product is defective in that it is creating too much drag and does not operate as one would expect.
Customer Review: Great when it works... and a possible fix for when it doesn't Summary: 3 Stars
I needed a new cassette adaptor to replace an old Belkin model that was making too much noise, so I got three of these-one for a Monsoon stereo in a Passat, one for a stereo in a 203 Caravan and one for a 13-year-old stereo in a boat. They worked great in the Caravan and boat, but the first one I tried only worked intermittently in the Passat the first day, and then stopped working altogether. I removed the tension wheel from inside the adaptor and it didn't fix the problem, but when I switched it with one of the other (non-modified) adaptors, the other one worked fine. I'm sure the problem is related to the auto-reverse feature of the Monsoon stereo, and am guessing that it's related to the amount of tension that the tension wheel is applying. There's a straight metal spring element that can be bent to adjust the amount of tension, for others who might find themselves in a similar situation.
