Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PCT International 4221HD Channel Master Ultratenna HDTV UHF AntennaCustomer Review: Attic Antenna in Chattanooga Summary: 5 Stars
Unbelievable!!! I ordered the Channel Master 4221 yesterday from Amazon for $39.99 w/free shipping. It was supposed to be 5 - 9 days shipping, but it was at my house today when I got home from work. I installed it right away in my attic, but I was only getting the same channels I had before with rabbit ears. They were all strong signals (100%) which suprised me. They were 100% even on the VHF channels 3.1, 3.2, 9.1, 9.2 and 12.1. This is supposed to be a UHF only antenna. I checked the instructions and discovered that I had the antenna facing backwards from where the station I wanted was. The bowties need to be facing the station. I went back to the attic and sweated for a few more minutes (it must be at least 1000 degrees in there this afternoon), and then I went back to scan the channels. 19 channels baby!! I got the three extra Georgia PBS channels that I wanted. They are around 50% strength, but they are not stuttering. My kids are happy because one of the channels broadcasts PBS Kids shows all day and night....almost like a free, educational Cartoon Network. I got this antenna to receive the GPB stations (30 miles away) that are in the opposite direction of most of my regular stations (20 miles away). It was recommended by someone on highdefforum.
Customer Review: Great antenna Summary: 5 Stars
I had bought 2 antennas previously based on recommendations from antennaweb and radio shack associates and they were both disappointments. For $100 and $60 respectively I could only get a few channels of HD programming after a lot of adjusting which involved many trips to the roof and back.
I read rgifford's review on Amazon and shared the frustration with getting an OTA HD signal, so I decided to give this antenna a try and I am very pleased with it (thanks rgifford!!). I live in Brooklyn, so I pointed the antenna at the empire state building, came downstairs and did an auto scan on my tv's HD tuner. It came up with 38 channels!! Granted, about half of them are public access and local bulletins, but I have ALL of the network channels in HD, a couple Spanish channels (HD soccer!), and some random music, cooking and travel channels. For $30 I couldn't have asked for more.
The antenna itself is relative small, much smaller than any of the previous antennas I had bought, and light. It didn't require any assembly and took about 5 minutes to install with just an adjustable wrench. If you have been having trouble getting local HD channels, especially if you live in NYC I strongly recommend this antenna!
Customer Review: Attic is the answer Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this antenna to feed a TV I installed in my bathroom. I did not want additional cable charges for the small amount of time the TV in the bathroom would be in use. However, I did want good HD reception for at least the networks. To test reception I connected the antenna and sat it again the window wall in my 2nd floor bedroom closet facing toward the network channels. In the closet I was receiving a strong 4 bar (out of 10 bars) reception on the major networks with some jumping up to 6 bars. However, this resulted in some ghosting and dropped signals. I then placed the antenna in my attic directly above the closet and amazingly the signal jumped to solid 10 bars on all networks. Perfect picture with no ghosting even though it was raining outside. I could not believe the attic would improve the signal strength that much over the antenna being on a finished level of the house. I am getting a better signal that I receive on my outdoor antennae that is connected to a basement TV. I am only 20 miles from most stations but after auto channel seeking on the TV I am picking up over 30 channels. I am 20 miles south of DC so a good area for TV stations. Impressed with this antenna.
Customer Review: Works as Advertised Summary: 4 Stars
The antenna works as advertised. I'm using the antenna outside in my backyard and I'm able to capture both analog and DTV signals with this. Only problem I have is the antenna wasn't designed to reduce interference. I live in Washington DC, just about 8 miles away from Reagan National Airport and every time an airplane flys low (usually on cloudy days), the antenna is not able to reduce the interference cause by the airplanes and as a result I would loose some of my DTV channels (but only for a few seconds). However at the time of this writing, not every station in the area was broadcasting digital and so that can be another reason for the momentary loss of DTV channels. It would be interesting to see what happens after FEB 17, 2009 when every station must broadcast in DTV. I suspect that would reduce the interference from the low passing airplanes. To summarize this antenna is able to receive analog and digital signals and I have used it as an outdoor antenna without any problems (save for the passing airplanes).
Customer Review: Good inner city digital antenna Summary: 5 Stars
My inlaws are retired and on a fixed income. They were complaining about their cable bill while over at our house. My fater-in law commented how good the quality of my HDTV was and I let him know that we use an HD antenna and he was impressed.
We got him the channel master 4221HD for Xmas and hooked it up for him. I had purchased an amp and another HD-VHF antenna to run through a splitter. After hooking up the 4221HD seperately with out an amp, I found his reception 100% on all local stations.
To be fair, he is located less than 20 miles from most of the TV stations in Jax, Fla, so he is destined to get good reception, but the Antenna sits on a five foot mast at the peek of his roof and there is a 25 degree range for all of the stations.
This is an excellent antenna for the inner-city/urban area and he even gets stations as far as 70 miles away. This was an excellent choice for his needs.
