Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Channel Master 4228HD Long-Range Outdoor Rooftop HDTV AntennaCustomer Review: Great results Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this antenna for 2 month now and could not be happier with the results. I mounted antenna in the attic of my town house and I get all of the channels antennaweb.org specified. When antenna arrived at my house I realized it was to big to fit trough the attic hatch. So I made it fit by bending it, then straightened it out in the attic - works like a charm, no problems. In retrospective I would like to see different design that would allow for dis-assembly. Now, the picture quality is excellent, way better then over-compressed junk my cable provider was selling me. In my wife's words: "Oh, that's how HD looks like?" It was a chore to run the antenna down on to a 1st floor, but it was well worth it in the end.
Customer Review: OK, but really no better then a 4-bay Summary: 3 Stars
I got this antenna for a 3-story apartment building, and had it professionally installed. It replaced a 4-bay Channel Master that was 1/2 the size. Once installed, and actual signal strength measurements were taken, we found out that this antenna actually was WORSE then the 4 bay- it was particularly weak at the high end (channel 57) and about the same in the middle ranges. Also, during a recent ice storm, we lost the signal entirely, because the design of this antenna makes it very easy to "ice up". It works, but I think there are better choices out there.
Note- We ordered the Model 4228HD (newer version) and actually got the 4228(older version) I kept it because I had read that the 4228HD was even worse.
Customer Review: Works Like A Charm Summary: 5 Stars
As satelite TV customers, our local HD channels are not available to us as we're "within range" of the transmitters. Technically that's true but the reality is we're in an extremely heavily forested mountain valley 50+ miles from those transmitters. Normal UHF antennas were marginal for the old analog signals and clearly no match for the more finicky digial variety. The 4228 with a matching low noise, high gain, mast mounted preamp so far has acquired an additional 13 channels we had never received before, all in perfect HD and in all weather.
Is it big? Yes.
Is it ugly? Absolutely!
Does it work? For us, it works like a charm!
Customer Review: Pretty antenna, pretty picture Summary: 4 Stars
I owned the 4-bay version of this back when they essentially used chicken fence for the back reflector - terrible looking antenna but it did the job well.
I got this one because I wanted to pull in a few more channels (we couldn't get NBC) and I liked the signal I was getting with the 4-bay unit.
This sucker arrived and wow what a difference from the previous generation. Very shiny aluminium reflector, very light, and the stuff it pulls in is supurb. Highly recomended.
Sadly it doesn't include a mounting pole for the mast like te 4-bay did but that was a minor ordeal.
Good buy, highly recomended for great free HDTV viewing.
Customer Review: Not a VHF Antenna Summary: 2 Stars
I take no issue with the product. My problem was that the Amazon add stated that this antenna was both VHF & UHF. After I installed it, & got less reception than my original on a few channels, I called Channel Master tech. They informed me that this antenna is a UHF antenna, even though it will receive a small VHF signal just by virtue of physics. So it worked just fine on the UHF signals, but I was already getting excellent reception from my original antenna. I must say that Amazon showed their usual class by allowing me to return the antenna for a full refund. So, I am writing this review just to warn you that this antenna is a UHF antenna.
