Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Channel Master 4228HD Long-Range Outdoor Rooftop HDTV AntennaCustomer Review: Quality control needed Summary: 5 Stars
Considering the antenna box was in picture perfect condition when it arrived, I have no idea how this antenna could be so bent up. After contacting Channel Master customer service and spending an hour bending things back in shape, it works great. It works so much better than I expected, that I gave it 5 stars. With it 30 feet in the air, it dosen't even look like it was dropped down the side of a mountain.
I am using a Channel Master cm7778 amp and standard RG6 cable with this antenna.
I live between 3 cities and the broadcast towers are 28 to 55 miles from my home.
I do have the antenna mounted on a rotor but have found that stations within a 40 mile range don't care what direction the antenna is pointed. They come in fine where ever it's pointed.
As it is March in Michigan, there are no leafs on the trees. If tree leafs affect the performance, I will update review.
Customer Review: 4228 8 bay 17-23 db gain antenna Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought this antenna and mounted it here in San Jose, Ca and it works awesome. Installed it on a 10ft pole, attached it to the chimney and aimed it at 352 compass heading. I receive 33 English channels and 26 foreign and it received Oakland & SF no problem. You will get the HD channels from this 4228 antenna, but I also went to a website called AntennaWeb and include my address and it will give you the location for the towers. If you live here in the bay area it works great but you're only going to get your local channels that's all. Now when you are putting the antenna brackets on because it does not come together in the box be careful not to over tighten the F connector to the black dipole box it will break. Just hand tighten them and also you're better off sealing all the connection and the dipole black box yourself factory box is not water tight, hope this review helps.
Customer Review: One of the smartest things I ever purchased! Summary: 5 Stars
Stop paying cable! SAVE $$$ This item can help you break away from Comcast. I live in the San Francisco East Bay area, about 45 miles from the signal tower (Sutro Tower) without line of sight due to the hills, but I pick up about 45 channels over the air (OTA) in HD! What's more you won't believe the clarity of HD signals on your HD TV with built-in tuner or just analog TV with a digital converter box. I have this item set up on the roof, and got my bearing by checking out my location on the Antennaweb.org website. Easy to set up, reasonable price on Amazon (if you are in the bay area, you can get this item from your local Fry's for $59 + tax). If you want to set this up on your roof, you need to purchase a mast, or simply try to set it up on your attic. This is a definitely one of the smartest things I ever purchased!
Customer Review: Works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
The antenna works fine on UHF and better than expected on VHF. I receive almost all digital UHF stations from the Sacramento area, about 100 miles away (I'm on a mountain top in the Santa Cruz Mountains). Reception of San Francisco UHF stations (about 40 miles) is still a bit spotty at times due to the redwood forest surrounding my house in that direction. However, it is still better than the large VHF-UHF Yagi that I was using previously.
There is information available on how to improve the performance of this antenna. Apparently, the feed harness is poorly designed, resulting in poorer performance than the previous model CM-4228. In fact, the performance is not significantly better than the CM-4221HD. See http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/TemporaryPage.html for details.
Customer Review: This is the real deal! Summary: 5 Stars
I tried some of the little set-top units, both amplified and not. Not so great. When I saw this Channel Master on sale for $56, I ordered it right away and couldn't be happier. My signal strength jumped 2 to 3 times (depending on the channel) - and that's without an amplifier. I live in the middle of an urban area, and all the transmitters are from 6 to 30 miles away. I have the unit mounted in my utility room (near the TV cable junction box). The signal stays strong during thunderstorms and other signal-blocking events. It also comes with some basic mounting hardware. The price of this antenna is about the same as a month of extended basic cable. If you're considering dumping cable (which we just did) this antenna is a great alternative.
