Customer Review: Cowboy Studio Tent Works Great

After researching a number of different photo tents I decided on the Cowboy Studio 30" tent because it seemed to offer a good balance of size verses portability, allowing me to photograph small to medium-sized objects. It comes with both black and white background cloths and a reasonable carrying case that holds everything snuggly. The studio arrived without delay, though the reflectors were both damaged on arrival (bent). The box itself had been badly handled, so I don't blame it on Cowboy, although I supposed it could have been more securely packed to prevent damage. There was no question about shipping replacement reflectors at no charge, though for some reason they shipped the wrong model reflectors twice before getting it right. Again, good customer service response but the person fulfilling the order wasn't exactly on the ball.
The 800 watts of light are bright enough to sufficiently illuminate the objects I have been shooting, in fact I think that anything less would not be bright enough to offer a reasonable exposure. After experimenting with manual settings on my Canon PowerShot I was able to get very nice photos with all white or black backgrounds. Auto settings do not fare well--you will need to go manual. I also have a Canon Digital Rebel SLR that is of course no problem to shoot with, but I was curious as to how the point-and-shoot would work. The biggest problem with the point and shoot was getting the focus right on macro shots--but since this isn't a camera review that's another issue!
Packing up the tent is easy as it collapses down like a reflector and stores in a pouch that is provided. The light fixtures are nicely adjustable in height and angle, and of excellent quality, though one of the incorrect replacement reflectors they sent had a much cheaper version of the fixtures that made me wonder if they always ship the version I received.
All told, I am a happy customer, and could only have been happier if it hadn't taken three shipments to get the damaged reflectors replaced.
4 out of 5 stars for somewhat spotty customer service and poor initial packing of the product.
