Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm Z22 Handheld

Customer Review: you get what you pay for, but that's just fine
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently decided that I didn't need a pda with a camera, audio player and memory card so I decided to trade in my Zire 71 for the new z22. When I got it home I had some initial problems with synching. The z22 software never asked if I was upgrading or not, so it wound up fighting with my old pda softwar. This was easily fixed by manually uninstalling all the palm software on my computer and starting fresh. The screen feels different, like harder and more responsive to the stylus. Also, the z22 has no case which is irritating but not a huge deal.

Now that you know my qualms, here's what I love about it:
1. The price is right. It's great having such a sophisticated pda for such a low price.
2. Very travel friendly. This pda is light and it comes with a separate adapter and sync cord which is a great improvement from the bulky connected cradle/ac adapter thing I had to lug around with my zire 71. It's also generally smaller and lighter.
3. It does everything my old pda did organizationally, but it's a simpler machine. I don't have to pay for all of the features I'll never use.
4. The calendar/to do features work significantly better than they did on my zire 71. I can color code to do's and calendar events. Plus, I can use the feature on my imac or my pda without problems (synching the tasks on the zire 71 never quite worked if you were checking items off from the desktop and the handheld)

Customer Review: I valued this device a great deal...
Summary: 3 Stars

but the first one I rec'd lasted 2 days. Then after powering it down one time, it would never power back up. Sent it back and rec'd another unit-- shipping free--(Amazon is great for buying things for this reason alone) and loaded bibles and a couple other games on it (to create to-do lists, schedule time, and plan a wedding, this device is GORGEOUS) and loved it for about a week, even though a reset using the stylus was frequently necessary. This time, I double checked compatible 3rd party programs, since this may be a cause for crashes. Suddenly one afternoon the SAME thing as the first one-- would not reset or power up or get noticed syncing with Windows. Emailed Amazon once again for shipping label, and rec'd email that problem is more widespread than originally thought. No guess on when error will be fixed. Who knows what it is, since it could be a bad batch, or an inherent problem with Palm (have they ever made PDA's with bugs... Naaaahhh), or whatever. And I bought a sweet case for it to keep it new. I really wanted to use this device for a long time. But it could be a blessing in disguise, since now I am looking at a unit with wifi and lots of other goodys. But for a basic, nice color screened organizer that is compact and lets you play tetris standing in line, this can't be beat for the price!!! But just remember that things break, and backup is always a good policy. I wanted to give it 5 stars.

Customer Review: Very Cool
Summary: 4 Stars

The Palm z22 is my very first PDA, I'm a full time college student AND I work full time, so my schedule is pretty crazy as you might imagine. I was contemplating weather to get this PDA or not, but after reading the reviews and having a friend show me her's I was sold.

Its small, and very light, I recommend you get some kind of case for it, for both protection and to carry it without worrying you might break it.

The reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 is this:
The instructional book isn't 'that' helpful, when I was reading through one of the booklets that came with it, it kept saying "refer to the start up guide", but I couldn't find the start up guide. There are no "how to" sections in the booklet to help you learn it faster.
True its not that difficult, if you have a few minutes, you should just start pushing buttons and with in a few minutes you'll get the hang of it.
Also the booklet said to charge it for 3 hours before use, but the truth is it need EIGHT (8) hours. After the 3 hours were done, I took it with me to the coffee shop and needed to check something but it wouldn't turn on. So I was PDA-less until I got home and charged it for the rest of the night.

But other than that, its very handy, I wish more of the cool software came included such as the "Shopping" application, which you can "Try".

I hope that helps.

Customer Review: It was good until it lost all my appts
Summary: 1 Stars

I had a Palm Pilot for several years, and it finally wore out. So when I needed a new one, I read the reviews, which were favorable, and I bought one maybe about a year ago. I had no problem until last week when I tried to add an appointment on my computer on March 18. No matter what I did, the Palm would not add it on the 18th but switched it to the 17th. So I added it on the handheld, and that worked.

But that same scenario happened several times with several other dates, and yesterday when I synced the handheld and computer, ALL the data for all my appointments erased on BOTH the handheld and computer.

I called Palm and was with their support staff for 4 HOURS. One tech hooked up to my computer screen and saw exactly what was happening. However, they could not fix it and recovered maybe 1% of the relevant data -- "relevant" because much of what was recovered I had previously deleted or it was recovered to different days. For example, there was an appointment on April 4, 2010 that turned up on April 4, 2011.

The tech said it was a software problem and only relevant to the week of March 18 because she tried with other dates and it worked fine. HUH? It ERASED everything.

I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world, but I did absolutely NOTHING different or wrong in using this product. Needless to say, I will not be buying another one.

Customer Review: Data Loss after hot sync with Palm Desktop Software
Summary: 1 Stars

In my humble opinion backup your Palm Desktop software prior to using this product and performing a hot sync.

Note: I have been using the Palm Desktop "software" for years as my personal digital assistant (PDA). I accumulated over 2000 entries over the years.

After purchasing the Palm Z22 Handheld I did the next best thing. I synced the PalmOne Z22 PDA to my Palm Desktop software that contained all my data:
- I used the default setting for my first hotSync. But, the default setting was to "synchronize the files" between calendar, contacts, memos, etc.

The hotsync deleted 50% of my data due to the "default" settings.

Here are all my categories that were deleted.
-- Memos
- Desktop category 'onlinePurchases' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'music' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'Linux & Windows' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'massage' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'grammar' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'cc' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'magazines' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'software' has been deleted.
- Desktop category 'Dell' has been deleted.

I'm sure this will happen and be harmful to many people.

In my humble opinion backup your Palm Desktop software prior to using this product and performing a hot sync.
