Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm Z22 HandheldCustomer Review: perfect solution for those on a budget or PDA newbies Summary: 5 Stars
This was my first ever PDA, after years of lugging around a giant Franklin planner. I am so glad I picked this model. It's been my workhorse since the moment I received it in the mail. The calendar & task list are very easy to use, which are what I use most of the time. Since I already lug around a laptop (out of necessity), I simply use the software on my laptop to plan my day, then synch it w/the PDA first thing in the morning. It's great for taking notes on the fly, having your address book handy, and maintaining shopping lists. I use this for working out as well, keeping track of all of my reps, weights, etc. Learning how to write on the screen is very simple, and if you don't like that, you can tap out everything with a QWERTY on-screen keyboard. I recommend investing in a nice carry case (I have the Krusell snap cover, which is very practical) and extra cover sheets for the screen. Even with those purchases, this PDA is a bargain for what you get. The battery life has been great as well. I hardly ever need to pull out the charger, since it charges during synching. I only wish it came with a cradle instead of the USB cord, but that is pretty minor. The screen also isn't great for pictures, as it's kind of low-resolution, but again, I don't carry around many pictures (it also helps if the pics aren't low-light), so it's not something I really need. Still, I'm giving this 5 stars because of the price. I'll eventually upgrade to something w/wi-fi and an MS Office Suite, but for now this more than meets my needs.
Customer Review: Satisfied to a Point Summary: 4 Stars
I found this product to be exactly what it is intended to be; an entry level PDA/Handheld.
Photos downloaded to it are dark and grainy so forget that use.
I tried to use a freeware check register for handling accounts, but it locked up and forced me to do a reset. Other than that it has proved to be very reliable.
My original reason for purchasing the Z22, was to have a truly (shirt) pocket sized e-book reader and at this it excels. No matter where I am, if I have to time fill, I can pull out my Z22 and be reading in seconds. A full sized e-book reader would be great (and cost about 2.5 times as much), but they're not pocket sized and I can't always carry a briefcase.
I have started using the contacts feature and found it useful. The memos and notepad features have also been very handy to have and use.
There is the usual LCD screen issue of being unable to see anything onscreen in bright sunlight.
A cradle would be great, but that is the trade off with an economy PDA. At this point I'll trade a minor thing like a cradle for frugality.
Memory could become an issue eventually, but so far it isn't.
All things considered, I am extremely satisfied with my little economy sized PDA. If you're looking for an entry level PDA and don't anticipate needing WiFi connectivity, a cradle or memory expansion, I don't think you can go wrong with the Z22 as long as you keep the limitations in mind.
Customer Review: Great entry level PDA Summary: 5 Stars
I recently read the book Getting Things Done by David Allen and wanted to get a PDA to help me implement the ideas presented in his book. One of the main things he stressed about his organizational system is that it is mainly about "list management." Consequently, I was looking for a basic PDA that would take the place of the post-it notes that were littering my wallet. I really had no interest in extras such as Bluetooth, WiFi, hi-res graphics, MP3 player, email, ability to create/edit MS Office documents, etc. If you want that stuff, go for something like the Dell Axim x51, which is what my fiancee bought.
I've had this PDA for about a month now and, for my purposes, it is great and does everything I need it to do. I'm really only using the calendar, tasks, address book, and memos. I also like the compact size, which makes it easy to carry around - it's about half the size of my wallet. The color screen is small so it's not great for displaying graphics but it displays text very well. Battery life has also been very good. I estimate that I can go over a week without recharging (but I don't have it on constantly) so the advertised battery life is probably pretty accurate. The "Graffiti" text input is a little annoying and I am constantly having to delete and rewrite letters but I might just need more practice.
Overall, this is a great-looking, user-friendly PDA at a nice price. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something with just the basics.
Customer Review: Best entry buy for serious Palm professionals Summary: 4 Stars
Many have come here to complain about the Z22 but frankly this system has lived for nearly 2 years without any loss of data or staying locked up or broken.
Most users are actually trying to use it with the higher end programs meant for more expensive models of handhelds and smart phone offerings.
The Z22 is not meant to carry out playing newer games or high graphical software, but it does its job and does it well.
Nearly every piece of productivity and entertainment software I have used in the past still works with the Z22. My only issue has been with some of the higher resolution only games that I once used. But games should be a small part of the PDA experience.
One of the best things is that some of the vendors have actually supplied me with versions of their software that will run BETTER on the Z22. Most of the newer updated software is not meant exclusively with the Z22 but many longtime vendors do support a previous version of their software that works well with the Z22.
I have compared the Z22 and for the price I have not lost any productivity or entertainment value and I find it carries out its intent as well as the other PDA versions using the Palm OS. Plus when I was strapped for money to replace my broken PDA the Z22 was the best choice and since I made the choice it has been very reliable.
Is it for everyone, no but I feel it is one of the best for the money!
Customer Review: A perfectly designed unit! Summary: 4 Stars
After a lot of research and going back and forth on PDA's and Pocket PC's, I decided to buy the Z22. For the price, I figured I couldn't go wrong.
And this little baby delivers! It does everything I could want it to do - keeps my calendar, contacts, to-do list (which syncs super-easily w/Outlook)- Surprisingly, I use the memo pad A LOT! It's great for taking quick notes on just about anything.
It comes with some added features: Games, my favorites are solitaire and crazy daisy. Splash Photo, I use it to carry pictures of the kids. And a surprise plus was Splash Shopper. Being a gadget person, I've always done my shopping list on Ecxel - where I could choose what I wanted to buy, sort it, and print it out by aisle/location in the store. Well, splash shopper does this so much better!! I always have my list with me. As I need things, I check them and as I buy things, I check them off. If you're diligent at inputting data, you can know how much your grocery bill will be for the items you've chosen before you even leave for the store! I love Splash Shopper - besides the "outlook" stuff, this is my favorite feature.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a PDA with lots of features and an awesome price tag, look no further. The Z22 is it!
The only reason I gave it 4 stars out of 5, is that I wish it had a flip top to protect the screen. Then I wouldn't have to worry about it so much when I have it in my pocket!
