Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm TX Handheld with Hard CaseCustomer Review: All Good but two MAJOR software flaws Summary: 2 Stars
So this is a great product. I have used Palm for 10 years and agree with other glowing reviews above. Will spare you the rosy and get to the point. Palm is shipping this with TWO MAJOR software flaws:
1) The Desktop Tasks app will not allow you to create tasks with no due date. It will force a due date of 12/31/2031. This a major known issue that Palm is sitting on for more than a year (I discovered this post-purchase on Palm support forum).
2) The Handheld Tasks app does NOT allow you to "Show only Due items". This can become a big deal is you have tons of tasks set for the future, and have to scroll through all of them to find the important ones.
By charging so much for this product, and shipping with such fundamental flaws, and not doing anything about it for over an year despite knowing about it, PALM IS INSULTING its loyal customers.
If Palm support does not respond these issues actively, I will be returning my product. Afterall, Contacts and Tasks are the Bread and Butter of Palm.
Customer Review: A disappointing upgrade Summary: 1 Stars
I upgraded to the Palm T/X when the processor died on my Handspring Visor Pro. I had high hopes for a color screen, MP3 player, and other little bells and whistles! From the beginning, I was disappointed. Amazon took more than six weeks to ship the thing (be careful with the "Free Shipping" choice on high-dollar products...you get what you pay for!). It came with a hard case--the clasp on the hard case broke after about a month and was not covered under the warranty. The digitizer (touchscreen) began to die after about two months (and yes, I kept a screen protector on it all the time. The screen is not scratched, it is just unresponsive). And it won't open PDA's or play files from Windows Media Player without purchasing expensive additional software. They also changed Graphiti to Graphiti II, which is just different enough to REALLY throw you off! Long story short: I have owned Treo's, Palm III's, and Palm VIIx's in the past, and this is the most disappointing PDA I have ever purchased.
Customer Review: Fast but limited Summary: 3 Stars
Nice to have a palm pilot with a bigger screen. My eyes are getting weaker and it really helps. Very fast processor. The bluetooth is a bit limited. I can hot sync without cables pretty quick. However, could not get my nice Motorola bluetooth headphones to pair with the TX. Some things just won't pair.
THe Blazer browser is pretty weak. Cannot get any you tube videos. Can't get much videos at all. Pretty much do not use it at all as a web browser. Also, had to know the encryption on routers I wanted to wifi to. My Itouch just knew. My Itouch has a much stronger browser with crystal clear picture.
I was really tempted to just use my Itouch instead of the TX. Memo is much better than Itouch "notes". Also, the TX has spread sheets and can use a key board. Have not found that for the Itouch.
In general, it is pretty much a business organization machine but falls short as an entertainment/business device.
Customer Review: tx desktop doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
I initially installed the tx on my Desktop PC running Windows XP. It installed and captured all of my Palm IIIxe contacts and memos. The hot sysnc worked fine. I needed to edit some of my contacts. I attemted to open the Palm desktop. I got a Windows "Palm Application Error" and the Palm desktop closed. It just keeps doing this. Then hot sync quit working. I uninstalled the software with the Palm CD and reinstalled it. No change- nothing worked. So I tried to install in on my Laptop running VISTA. What a mess. It simply would not install correctly. I tried all the tips in the Palm support site to no avail. After 6 hours I packaged the unit up and am sending it back to Amazon. To make matters worse, the Palm tx installation erased my Palm IIIxe software, and I cannot get the old software reinstalled now. So the only copy of all my contacts and memos is on my Palm IIIxe handheld unit. What a mess!!!
Customer Review: Screen problems Summary: 2 Stars
I liked the TX set up and features. Unfortunately, if you can't access them, it's a paperweight. The screen I got was touchy from the beginning and the digitizing function didn't help. Palm does not sell the replacement digitizer screens separately, and sending the product in for replacement was going to cost more than I paid for it. I couldn't get the screen from any other vendor, like I had done for my Palm E2. Eventually, the screen just stopped working and I couldn't fix it by hard reboot or anything. I have to get something else now, which is a shame. Before you buy this one, I would recommend reading the tech support pages off the Palm website. When I went there with my problem, I found I was in good company as many others had screen problems. I wished I had read them before I bought, but my previous Palm had been very good.
