Customer Review: Looks Cheap, Set Not Complete

I ordered this remote a few weeks ago. It got to me 4 days later than the "guaranteed" arrival date. Upon opening the box, I found what looks to me like a cheap plastic toy from China. Dismissing my first judgment, I followed the instructions to try it out. There are supposed to be two batteries included in this set. There was only one included, and the plastic package holding that battery had been opened. The battery for the transmitter was not included in the set.
While I've not used this product because it didn't come to me in a complete set, and therefore cannot comment on how it works, I'm completely unimpressed with what I've received and will be returning it promptly.

I use this remote with my Nikon D300, and usually when doing macro photography. I use the remote to remove any vibration from the shot that pressing the button with my hand would introduce. I'm only a couple feet away, so I haven't really tested the range. All in all, it works fine. I half press the button to focus, and then give it a full click to take the shot. It's simple and works fine. The remote uses CR2 size batteries, and initially I was concerned, but they were easy to find, I got them at my local best buy.

This remote chews through batteries, the costs of just the batteries make it not worth buying.

DO NOT BUY THIS REMOTE!
I was attracted by the cheap price, but in retrospect I wish I had bought the genuine Nikon one (ML-3)... This is a generic design shared by several knock-off brands. The build quality is very low, and after a couple months of light use, it just broke apart today. The jack to plug it to the camera is not made to last at all, and repeated attachment and removal of the receptor eventually showed that. The jack simply broke away from the wire. Looking at the internals it was only glued with some crappy silicon gel, so no wonder.
Spare yourself the trouble and go with another option.

I wish IR technology would just die - long live radio waves! I also wish push-button on/off switches would die - I think its a conspiracy propagated by the battery manufacturers - know what I mean? I take the batteries out before putting it in my camera bag. Also, Opteka's website has NO support on it - no product documentation that I could find - its just a shopping site - I lost or tossed the little paper it came with, and had to re-figure-out how to get the shutter-button to stay down for trap focusing, all by myself. Still, once its powered up and connected, it works great.Customer Review: Range not as expected
