Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Opteka Professional Wrist Grip Strap for Digital & Film SLR Cameras

Customer Review: good, but not comfortable
Summary: 3 Stars

This thing works, but it's uncomfortable (I tried it on a Canon DSLR).
There are two main issues with it:

1. if you adjust it enough to actually help you hold the camera, it won't let you move your hand. That means that you can't easily change the settings with one hand (it's very uncomfortable or impossible).

2. it burns :) a few minutes of having my hand in this thing, and it was sweating, and I was indoors trying it in a cool night, I don't want to imagine how it'd be to use it in a hot day outside.

It's not completely bad, but it's not for all occasional, you just need to decide when to use it, and if you want to sacrifice some comfort for some security.

Customer Review: Does its job, not too comfortable...
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this hand strap because I didn't want to look like a d0rk with a DSLR around my neck but also didn't want to drop my new camera. The hand strap is not comfortable at all when tightened snug, as it puts your hand in an akward position to take photos and press buttons. I needed to really loosen up the strap to be able to maintain my shooting grip. Quality wise, its pretty flimsy, the plastic base bends and the strap sometimes feels like its going to slip. Also, i had pull out the strap and readjust it to get it to fit like alot of the other reviewers. Overall it does its job, and for the price paid its not to bad. If I was more of a enthusiast, I'd look for something a bit more ergonomic

Customer Review: Useful accessory
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros:
Helps to get a good grip on the camera, improves maneuverability for prolonged periods of time. Opposed to the neck strap, there's less risk of hitting the camera with something when moving around. Material is resistant to hold the camera and smooth for the hand.

Cons:
You have to get rid of the neck strap, or somehow have both ends attached to one side of the camera. Would be nice for the hand grip to have a little hook to attach the right end of the neck strap and be able to use both.
You need to take it off to use a tripod. Not a big deal, considering that if you want a hand grip is because you're planning to hold the camera for a long period of time.

Customer Review: Useful, but ...
Summary: 4 Stars

It has taken a bit of getting-used-to, but I'm now pretty comfortable with this wrist grip, and would definitely recommend it. Like many other reviewers, the adjustable strap was backwards when it arrived; after fiddling with it for awhile and realizing that it wasn't working, I pulled it out and put it back the other way, and it worked fine. My only complaint has to do with the big, clunky attachment to the tripod screw -- it's no longer possible to put my camera (a Pentax K20D) down on a flat surface. I miss the flat-bottom of my dSLR! Otherwise, this is a really useful accessory for those of us who don't rely on the neck strap for carrying our cameras around.

Customer Review: Almost As Important To Have As A Lens
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent item for your Canon SLR....I'm not sorry
for buying it. Too bad Canon doesn't include an item like this
besides the neck strap. I put the neck strap in my carrying case
and use this grip all the time.

At first it took a little getting used to pressing the shutter button and using the finger controls with this grip on, but it is also adjustable and feels natural to hold an expensive SLR camera firmly in the right hand. Simply turn the wheel on the bottom of the grip base and slide it out of the way when accessing the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera. (Canon EOS XSi)
