Customer Review: Useless for Nikon D5000
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a D5000 and this is pretty useless, in fact, it's an obstruction.
First of all, the hole purpose of it is to maybe not need the neck strap, but if you're
like me and like to take vertical pictures you will need to set the hand strap very lose
to be able to hold your camera in a vertical position which trumps the hole purpose of
the grip.
Second of all, it does not have a good fit on the bottom part of the camera, the screw is
the only thing holding it in place and the bottom piece will not be fitted to the bottom
of the camera. You will also have to remove the grip/strap in order to remove the batteries
to charge them, and this made me realize immediately that I was not going to be screwing it
in and out everytime I need to charge my batteries.

I loved the idea of not needing anything other than this to hold my camera in a safe way, but
at least this product just didn't work for me and my D5000.

Customer Review: Secure feel
Summary: 4 Stars

This palm strap is exactly what I was looking for. I have a Canon 550D with a 15-85 lens, which feels a bit front-heavy together. Also, walking around with the camera in your hand when your arm is stretched down felt a bit scary with just your finger tops over the camera grip; now it feels secure. The quality is perfect for the money, but the plastic part is a bit crooked. The flap with the logo is actually sewed on, from the pictures I thought it would open with velcrow. Material on the inside is rubbery material. hope it doesn't get sweaty in warmer countries.
With some fiddling, I managed to put the neck strap back on (only works after you put the palm strap on). I made the neck strap as short as possible for over my shoulder, so the camera can be 'hidden' securely between elbow and body. Works even if you have to run a bit.
Tip to make sure straps cannot slip: when putting the strap through the buckle, give the strap half a twist, right in the buckle.

Customer Review: A cheap alternative that may/may not work for you
Summary: 3 Stars

I don't have a breadth of experience with hand straps, but with this one I think you get what you pay for (cheap build, less $$). Overall the strap seems durable enough, consisting mostly of plastic and ballistic nylon, though I wouldn't mind the base being made of a stronger resin so that it wouldn't flex.

Canon 40D users should note that the bottom piece doesn't fit quite right on the base of the camera (sans battery grip). The little lip on the screw-on bottom piece could be about a quarter inch to the right so as to clear the camera's power switch. Because the fit is not snug, the bottom piece is warping.

My other gripe is that the strap's cumbersome design impedes shortening up on the strap either if you have small hands and are not using a battery grip. This also contributes to the warping of the bottom piece.

In sum I recommend this item--with those gotchas in mind--for those looking for a cheaper hand strap.

Customer Review: Fingers Can't Reach Buttons!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this for use with my 40D. I was doing a lot of shooting with the camera held in one hand and a flash held in the other. The trouble was, I couldn't really operate the camera with one hand. For example, after shooting a couple of frames, I would want to switch to playback mode and review the images. I found I couldn't press the "play" button with the hand holding the camera. So I was left juggling the camera and the flash.

I thought that with this strap, I would be able to completely hold and operate the camera with one hand. Unfortunately when you have your hand in the strap and the camera is completely hanging off one hand, you CANNOT reach any of the buttons. The shutter release is the only thing that you can reach, and that's awkward. The problem is the camera hangs down, leaving your thumb way above any of the buttons. If you want to press any of the buttons on the camera, you need to hold it with your other hand.

Customer Review: Love this strap!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a wonderful new Panasonic Lumix micro four thirds DSLR, which I purchased - in part - for its small size. I wasn't happy with the shoulder strap, and couldn't seem to find the kind of small strap I'd used on my old Minolta APS SLR.

When I came across this Opteka wrist grip strap, it turned out to be the perfect solution! It screwed into the mount on the bottom of my camera (with a duplicate mount on the bottom of the wrist grip, so I can still use a tripod), and with a few adjustments fit my hand perfectly. Due to the design of my particular camera, the base covers my battery/card door, so I need to unscrew it to recharge the battery; that is hardly a fault of the wrist grip.

The strap puts the camera into a perfect shooting position to use the LCD and controls, and to have the best no-shake grip of a digital camera I've ever experienced. Overall, this is the best $10 camera accessory I've ever bought.
