Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Opteka Professional Wrist Grip Strap for Digital & Film SLR Cameras

Customer Review: Great item, handy, as described. Relieve wrist stress
Summary: 4 Stars

A great item that relieves stress on hand or wrist muscles. I just wish it can be used at the same time with the strap that comes with the camera (Nikon), because you can only hold the camera body + lens + flash + battery grip for so long before the weight of the entire thing bothers your wrist. Did a wedding two weekends ago and this thing held on for a while, but I had to take it off after about an hour or two.

For best use during long event like a wedding, I would prefer a combination of both wrist use and shoulder / neck strap that comes standard with the camera body. Probably wouldn't be an issue for a brief 1 hr photo session.

Tried to insert both the neck strap and wrist strap and didn't work out. So if they develop a newer version that can use both neck and wrist strap, then I'll get it in a heartbeat.

Overall though, it's a great item. Fit nicely, secure grip, comfortable even after hand being sweaty, etc. Easy to use, even used it with my Manfrotto pro-tripod and the bottom portion fit nicely and steady. For the price, it's worth it.

Customer Review: Excellent addition to your Nikon D5000
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best little add on that you could purchase for your Nikon D5000 DSLR camera. It took me a while to figure out the best way for me to attach this strap along with the neck strap but eventually I found a combination that worked. I know others may not like having both straps but for me it's all about flexibility. In addition to this add on I have a Zeikos D5000 grip attached as well. This gives the camera the just the right height for this to fit perfectly. The only issue with this combination is that there is a lip on the strap mount that gets in the way of the battery compartment of the Zeikos grip. Not a big deal since this is a bit flexible so it can be nudged out of the way. I may file the little lip off to eliminate this but for now it is going to stay. So far it is pretty comfortable, but I'm in no way a professional so I don't usually have this on my hand for hours at a time but for me it works and feels natural in my hand. The only thing I wish was that the mount that attached on the bottom had some metal in it and less plastic, otherwise it seems sturdy enough.

Customer Review: Not What I Was Hoping For
Summary: 3 Stars

Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I'm not overly pleased with this strap. The things I'm not fond of:

1. The strap isn't 'stiff' enough to slip my hand in and out of without it 'sticking' to me.
2. Doesn't seem very breathable - makes my hand sweat and then sticks to it; not very comfortable.
3. Strings from the seam are coming loose and 'tickling' my hand (kept thinking bugs were landing on me, lol).
4. When it's tight enough to work properly, it hinders my ability to adjust my manual settings on my camera (maybe because my hands are so small?).
5. If I need to carry something with both hands, I'm either banging my camera against it or leaving my camera and coming back for it.

I'm thinking I may have less issues with a leather version (they're stiffer)? And obviously the last item is not related directly to THIS strap, but to wrist straps in general. I've actually just ordered a rapid strap; hopefully I'll like that better. :) Others may have good experiences with this strap, but I just don't think it's a good fit for me.

Customer Review: Needs a redesign and instructions
Summary: 4 Stars

I like this product but I do not like the design of it. It comes in plastic packaging with a graphic on the front. When you pull it out there is no simple instructions on the best way to strap this to your camera. Basically you have to figure out what would be the best way - which I did. t would be better if they had an hook attachment instead of a strap attachment for their grip. The base that screws into your tripod mount hole is not the best but when tightened carefully it will suffice. Just take it off when mounting to a tripod as if you try to use this and mount it to a tripod at the same time you may have some loosening which you will have to tighten again and again if you move your tripod around much.

I do not like to have a camera neck strap on the camera (makes me look like a tourist) but this does the job. After getting it secured to my Nikon D90 I could still use my fingers for the shutter release, on/off switch, and use my thumb for the live view button and other tasks that you may need your right hand for. Keep it clean people.

Customer Review: A Must Have for DSLR Video
Summary: 5 Stars

Before I purchased my Opteka Pro Wrist Grip, I read quite a few of the 1 and 2 star reviews. I was a little concerned until I read one reviewer point out that this strap isn't intended for smaller DSLR's. I can confirm that he is correct. I bought this for my Canon 60D. When I first got the strap, I hadn't yet received my battery grip. Without the battery grip attached to the camera body, the strap is a little uncomfortable, it restricts movement, but still pretty great. With the battery grip attached to the camera body, this strap makes holding a pretty solid camera body/lens combo feel amazing.

As for the title of this review, "A Must Have for DSLR Video"; just consider how annoying the lanyard strap would be while trying to hand hold for video or have the camera on a tripod. If you can't imagine it, it's super annoying. But the alternative of removing the lanyard, and just trusting your grip is pretty scary.

So far I'm loving it, but it's only been one week. If I change my mind, I will update this review.
