Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Opteka MP100 67" Professional Heavy Duty Photo / Video Monopod

Customer Review: good
Summary: 4 Stars

I like this one, although for about $5 less you can get Kodak's 68" "Go Anywhere" Pro Monopod. I'd been using the Kodak (approximately the same length/features as this) and bought the Opteka because I thought it might be sturdier. It possibly is. However, I think I prefer the Kodak because it feels slightly lighter, and as long as it's "sturdy enough," the lighter feel "carries more weight," in my selection process. When I need to grab one and go to a shoot, I'll probably still be grabbing the Kodak.

Bear in mind neither of them has a tilt head. They're good just for horizontals, unless you can buy/attach a ball head or other attachment design to use for verticals/angles. I use a different class of mono for those occasions. (Actually, I'm still comparing; see my other mono reviews.)

Customer Review: Exceptional Walking Stick Monopod for cheap!
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this monopod for my pentax optio w20 camera and for a panasonic video camera. I use it when camping and it doubles as a sturdy walking stick. When I'm out in the wilds people think it's a walking stick until they see my small camera perched on top of it.

It has really improved my ability to stay steady and blur free with my new pentax which has no optical viewfinder. I like the quick adjustment legs as opposed to screw type.

I've also used this tripod to stick my video camera out of my sunroof to cruise through New England to catch the Autumnal leaves while driving which has given some interesting results. I plan to do the same thing on Rt 1 to film the big sur highway.

The only thing I need to get is a ball head to adjust the angle of the camera.

For the price this was a steal and a hearty deal.

Customer Review: Great item!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a small camcorder but needed something besides a full size tripod to record using less space. I love that this monopod came in a carrying case and I always leave it in the trunk of my car for "just in case" situations. My camcorder is small and I keep it in my purse, so these "just in case" moments are really amazing and I am always ready. Before I got this monopod, I attempted to capture some on the spot recordings but the end result was very shaky and ruined the effect. I have taken this monopod into my church and just held it right against the outside of the pew for stable recording and made a DVD of the preacher's sermon to be given to shut-ins in our community. I like that it has a variety of heights and can be adjusted to fit whatever your need is at that time. I absolutely love it and don't have a single complaint to make about it!

Customer Review: Great Monopod for the Photog on a Budget
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this a few months ago and here are my impressions.

Pros:
-Great quality for the price.
-Sturdy enough to use as a walking stick but light enough not to be a burden.
-Simple, secure flip locks for each section of the pole.
-Nice case included.

Cons:
-Screw-down rubber foot that covers the metal tip wore down quickly.
-Plastic connection for the hand strap is cheap and poorly placed.
-Hand strap is too cheap and uncomfortable to use.

Conclusion:
You will not find a better deal in Monopods than this one. In spite of the cons, I would buy this again in a heartbeat. It costs a fifth of what a similar Manfrotto monopod costs and does exactly the same thing.
It is the best monopod out there for someone on a budget!

Customer Review: Well, It Worked Great for 5 Months...
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this to use with my Canon Rebel XTi. I immediately loved it since it added just a little bit more stability to my photos, which increased their quality, especially for macro and long distance shots. Then five months after I started using it, the metal screw that attaches to the camera broke off with my camera attached while I was walking with the camera and monopod supported on my shoulder. I luckily had the camera strap in my fingers, so I caught my camera before it hit the ground. Now this monopod is going into the trash. I'm definitely going to replace it soon though since my overall experience was positive and I found it to be a very useful tool. I just would like a longer-lasting product. Maybe it's a good idea to invest a little more money for one that is more durable.
