The lens hood is such an important part of the camera system that it really should be included in the box with the lens; This hood snaps on easily, and has rarely been off of my lens, since it is usually used in bright sunlight. It also helps to protect the front surface of the lens, so even when stored, the hood is permanently installed.

Opteka's ET-65B Lens Hood is designed for the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM & EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS DO USM Lenses. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
