This lens is offered as an attachment for use with the Canon S5 and S3. I bought it to enhance macro photos, the reason that I bought my Canon S3 camera in the first place. Note that I also bought, reviewed and returned "Opteka Close-Up Set (+1, +2, and +4) with 10x Macro Lens for Canon Powershot S5 IS and S3 IS" at the same time. Neither the set, nor this lens, offered much of any significant improvement over what the camera already delivers.
I had been hoping that the set just mentioned would provide me with intermediate macro magnifications, and that this "Opteka 10x HD² Professional Macro Lens for Canon Powershot S5 IS, S3 IS, and S2 IS" would improve on the "regular" 10x Macro lens included with the kit. If it did, I couldn't tell.
With this "10x HD² ProfessionalLens" I also took an entire series of pictures: With the Camera in regular more, regular mode plus the lens, in Close-up mode without the lens, then close-up mode with the lens, and again, the same series in SuperMacro, with and without the lens. I found no discernible difference between close-up in macro mode with the lens, and close up in SuperMacro without it. SuperMacro with the lens did not increase resolution or help with focal length.
I returned the lens because it simply didn't add much of anything to what the S3 is already capable of on it's own.
If you DO buy any of these gadgets from 47th Street, be sure. I bought them from 47th Street Photo and they were strict about their re-stocking fee. By the time you are done paying shipping fees both ways (their shipping charge was more than actual shipping), then get hit with a restocking fee, it isn't much different than an eBay seller that sells a $.99 item with a $10 shipping fee. The lenses (both the kit and the HD Pro) were returned in absolutely perfect condition with all original packaging (all I ever did was test them to see if they "worked," they don't) but was still slammed with restocking. If you buy these from 47th Street, plan on owning them whether they work for you or not.
