Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of One For All URC 4110 4-Device Universal Big-Button Remote ControlCustomer Review: Very Good Universal Remote Summary: 5 Stars
I have used universal remotes for a lot of years now. I have always been a gadget guy so keeping the remotes around for my media setup, especially with kids, is just not practical. For several years I have been using this one for all remote. I have replaced the remote three times for a variety of reasons but have always returned to the same basic model.
You would think with being a gadget guy I would go in for a real expensive remote that could literally do everything. I have tried the more expensive remotes. Believe it or not I have not enjoyed anything more complex then this remote. The others are just too much work for relaxing. I like and my family likes the more relaxed usage of the simple one for all remote.
Pros:
- Inexpensive. Very easy to fit in a your budget.
- Easy to program.
- Works with just about any device even though the codes haven't been updated in a while.
- Nice large buttons.
- Button layout is logical and easy to get familiar with.
- Lasts a long time. I have broken or lost 3 but that is not the devices fault.
Negatives:
- This is not a learning remote. You can search for codes but you can't import functions from other remotes.
- Does not work well with DVD/VCR combos. This is the only reason I have considered moving up.
- Buttons do not light up or glow in the dark and that would be nice.
For the price I could not ask for much more.
Customer Review: The company changed its great customer support Summary: 1 Stars
This company USED to have great customer support that made it simple to get their remotes working with your TV. You called, a human answered, a human who spoke English perfectly and knew what she was doing. The codes didn't work with my remote -- no problem, she beamed one to me over the telephone. After that the remote worked perfectly with my ancient TV.
So, when I needed a new remote, I bought another one from them.
Alas! They don't even have their phone number on their Web site anymore or even an email address. There is a form to fill out -- and they claim that they will get in touch with you if you submit it. But that doesn't work, either. Every time I tried to submit the form, I got the message that the server wasn't responding. I tried for several days.
I can't call them. I can't email them. The form doesn't work. The remote doesn't work.
This is too bad: I thought I had finally found an American company with great customer service. I don't know why they changed their policy, but they did -- and now, their customer service is like most computer companies' customer service: useless. No wonder our economy is in a mess!
Customer Review: Great price, works as described...only one small complaint Summary: 5 Stars
Cheap, works, retains the programming codes so you don't have to re-enter them a lot.
Only thing I don't like is the shift button. You have to use it for several things when controlling the DVD player, and it doesn't have a light up button or anything, so you never know if "shift" is currently selected or not. This matters when you press a button and it performs its alternate function rather than the one you intended. A light-up button indicating "shift" is activated would have been great.
Other than that, it all works. It's nice to have a remote that DOESN'T have 300 buttons. This one is simple enough to use...I control an ancient Sharp VCR, a Sony flatscreen TV, and a new Philips DVD player without any problems. Codes were simple and all worked fine. Best couple of bucks you can spend!
I would give it a 4 if it cost $30, but because of the incredible bargain and only a small complaint, I have to give this product 5 stars.
Customer Review: Works well on my 13" Toshiba TV Summary: 4 Stars
The remote for my 13" Toshiba TV started acting up recently, difficulty with some buttons while others were fine. I cracked it open and cleaned the contacts, but it didn't help. I wasn't sure this remote would work after I saw another reviewer who had problems with his Toshiba TV. There are four codes included for Toshiba televisions and mine ended up being the third. Programming is easy, you just press the device button (TV, DVD, VCR), hold SET for two seconds, then enter a four digit code.
The only problem I'm having is working the menu. I can get the menu up and select items with channel +/- buttons (using SHIFT), but I can't find a key to open the selected menu item in order to manage channels or adjust the picture. It looks like I should be able to operate the menu using buttons on the TV itself, so I'll manage.
Customer Review: Simple to Operate, Easy to Read Summary: 4 Stars
Bought this for my elderly father, who has trouble seeing and lacks dexterity to push small buttons. This is not a dazzling, sophisticated remote, but it is perfect for users such as my dad, or those who don't care about all of the "bells and whistles". The layout is logical and easy to figure out. It seems to have truly "universal" compatibility. As shown in the photo, the channel number buttons are actually shaped like numbers! What a refreshing difference from most remotes that have groups of tiny, difficult to push buttons with small numbers printed on them which rub off with wear! In the case of this remote, simple is good!
PS The only criticism I have is that the buttons do not light up. Otherwise, I would have rated a perfect "5"
