Customer Review: Very nice shelf but wrong dimensions.

I am very pleased with the shelf but was fortunate that it met my needs because the dimensions given by Amazon are INCORRECT. The shelf itself is 16" deep at its' DEEPEST point and 18" wide. I word it this way because the front of the shelf is rounded a bit and the rear is "notched" inward about 2 1/2" at each corner, giving it a usable depth of only approximately 12 1/2" front to rear edge to edge. When I 1st opened the box I was sure I'd have to return it but was delighted to discover that the feet of my Viewsonic Pro8100 projector JUST fit on the shelf like it was made for it. The Viewsonic is a HUGE projector and weighs about 20#. It is solid a as rock on the shelf. A couple of suggestions for a happy installation---1. Do NOT try to use the long screws they provide. You'll play hell trying to get them all the way into a stud. Pick up four 1/4" lag BOLTS (2 1/2" long) that you can use a socket or wrench on. 2.I suggest you force a bit of wire (I used a paper clip) into the space where the arm rotates before tightening everything down to prevent it from being loose enough to move easily. If I hadn't done this I feel that the shelf would have been prone to swinging left or right if just bumped.

I see a lot of complaints about the shelf being too large or sticking out to far etc. The picture is decieving and would not work well with a wall mounted TV because it does extend outwards. With my setup, my TV stand does not have space for a larger center speaker, and so this stand works perfectly for me because it is being used to hold up a 22lb center channel above my TV. The longer arm on this stand is perfect for me because it sits nicely for my set-up. The contruction is quality with a nice heavy steel plate, a thick piece of tempered glass and a nice looking steel arm. For those that are complaining about drywall installation, that again is user's error. The manufacturer's instructions tell you to locate a stud using a stud finder and mount it on a stud. It mentions no where mounting it in dry wall only. The screws are big and long (that's what she said) and work well with the shelf. I have no worries about the shelf falling out of the wall whatsoever.
Again, if you remove human error (which is impossible), then this product was well thought out and nicely constructed. Now if Amazon had a user rating system instead...

The shelf works great. We only know that from other ones we have purchased.(not through Amazon)
We ordered two of these shelves (we install flat screen t.v.'s) because our distributor had none in stock and we needed two for an install.
We ordered them on May 7 and never received them!!
Amazon sent us a tracking # SPOOFED_ANS. I knew something was wrong so I e-mailed Amazon and Amazon wrote back saying not to worry, everything was fine and we would receive our order. Order never came so we called Amazon and they said not to worry, our order would arrive.
This went on for days....finally on May 26 we were given a refund.
This was such a pain! We would have tried to find the shelves elsewhere and had our install finished and complete but instead Amazon kept telling us not to worry!
It all worked out in the end. We purchased different shelves for our customer and he loved the way the install turned out.
We have ordered from Amazon many times with no problem, but after this we will try to avoid Amazon at all cost, it was a total hassle dealing with Amazon when you have a problem.

I just built a room from scratch and with the bare new walls i wanted to set up a nice area to watch TV and as well account for a new baby coming along. I needed a shelf that can be put anywhere especially high above the reach of a child. Settled on this product.
Received it immediately, even before said delivery date. Hopes were high from the get go. Since I had already known where the studs where it was really easy to do that aspect of it, installing into stud. I WOULD RECOMMEND ONLY INSTALLING INTO STUD .. no anchoring. I used about 2inch Steel Lag Screws to screw it into the stud and i'm telling you you can hang off the damn thing, the reason i didn't use the screws that came with the product was simply wanted a little more trusted stability with my equipment if its going to be 6ft off the floor. There screws might be fine, but i just opted for mine right off the bat.
Thing looks so beautiful, i have now ordered 4 of these shelfs and installed 2 for my parents house as well! The product is totally legit and seriously at this price its a damn steal!

This is my second OmniMount purchase after a TV wallmout. I love the quality of the products from OmniMount and this component shelf is very strong and it right now holds my DVR, DVD player and I also placed a laptop on the DVD player. The only thing I worry about is if the stud can hold the shelf and it's contents.
Good:
- Installation was pretty easy and straightforward using the hardware included with the product. You should have a better stud-finder and a stronger drill.
- Very strong and sturdy
Not so good:
- Protrudes far away from the wall. If you have installed it above 4 ft, you have to watch when walking near it or bending down under the shelf to pick up something from the floor. Though it took a while to get used to this protruding from the wall, now I am alright.
- I would have loved to have a shorter (at least by 3 inches) and fixed arm. Currently it can swing, for which I don't see any use.
