Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of OmniMount CCH1B Center Channel Speaker ShelfCustomer Review: Works fine Summary: 4 Stars
Have it setup on my 50" Sony Bravia SXRD rear projection HDTV. Works great. The "sticky" feet that come with it basically make it so once the feet are pressed against ANY surface, they ain't moving! So its probably best to get a helper to hold the shelf in place while you positing the back feet and then lock them in place.
I read one review about a 30lb center speaker pulling this shelf off. The sticky feet are so sticky that I can't imagine them giving way, but then again, NOBODY should be using a 30lb center channel, IMHO. Even my left/right Bose 201's don't weith that much....combined!
Overall, a nice product that works well with rear projection TV's and I would imagine with CRT TVs. If you have a super skinny LCD or Plasma, there just might not be enough meat on the back to prop the shelf up. I have my back feet on the shallowest/thinnest settings and they just catch the back of my Bravia. So I have to imagine that anything thinner than 5 or 6 inches will be too thin to use this shelf.
Customer Review: Does not work on flat screen TVs Summary: 2 Stars
In the description, it's stated that this shelf works for LCD TVs. I think they omitted an important word - this shelf might work for LCD projection TVs, but certainly not what I consider an LCD, which is a flat panel TV. The design requires a sloping back on the TV for the legs to rest on. My LCD (which is pretty thick for an LCD, with a 3" bump in the middle and around 1.5" on the sides) has nothing for the legs to rest on. I read some other reviews that lead me to believe it was only the new and very thin LCDs that would not work - this is not the case; ANY flat panel TV will not work.
If I had a CRT this would be great - it seems well constructed. It is actually bigger than I expected; my center channel speaker is pretty small in comparison. I think I could have fit at least two, maybe three of them on this shelf. The shelf would accommodate something like a large cable box or similar device - it's both wide and deep.
Great product, just make sure you know what you're getting.
Customer Review: Works great for a tivo! Summary: 4 Stars
I followed previous posts and installed the shelf upside down on old Panasonic cathode-ray tube TV. It looks great and holds the Tivo, plus a little Insignia digital converter box and a small light-weight antenna, weighing in total less than about 15 pounds.
However, a couple of significant gripes - the item was an obvious return, and the original packaging was in fairly sad shape, although all the contents seemed to be present. The "front pegs" that were supplied, however, were solid steel and did not match the black finish, nor did they look exactly like the picture in the instructions, and I could not get them to fit into the holes on the shelf. They were screwed to the feet, as described, but I don't think they came with this unit. I was fine, preferred actually, to install the unit upside down, but I had no choice. Would have returned the unit, but since it seems to work fine, I'll just keep it, but caveat emptor.
Customer Review: Don't attempt heavy load Summary: 3 Stars
I bought one of these to hold my 30 lb center channel on top of my 61" Samsung DLP. It worked just fine for about a week, and then last night the speaker came crashing down the back of my TV. The metal rods have ripped apart from the base (screws still in place, top part of metal rod itself ripped off). Also, the bolts that sit in front of the TV scratched my Samsung pretty good...it scratched it as I was installing it, and then again when it came crashing down.
I'm not angry or anything, I was using this shelf at its weight limit, and perhaps a pound or two above. Also, my center channel extended behind the shelf (I have a deep center channel). I would imagine this shelf would work great for a lighter, shallower center channel. If you have a heavy or large center like me, you may be better off with a HyLoft Heavy Duty Wall Shelf. I just ordered one from Amazon...and I'm SURE it will be sturdy enough (designed to hold 200lb).
Customer Review: ***Use it with your PS3/XBOX/Wii*** Summary: 5 Stars
I used the "upside down" technique that was talked about in one of the most helpful reviews listed. Since my TV is slim, the back legs do no "clamp" against the back, but the front lip does hook under the tv lip where the screen ends and the plastic frame of the tv begins. I have my PS3 on the floor, which looks terrible when you have a nice setup and a nice entertainment center, but with this beauty mounted inverted, it now has the center channel in the front and the PS3 behind it. It basically hides the PS3 and the wires behind it. I have a 42" Panasonic TV and it looks very slick like a floating platform above the TV with a true center sound now. My wife loves that it hides my "gaming thingy" as we are in our 30s and not trying to show off my video game system to our friends and family :) It was either this, or PS3 in the bedroom and buying a new Blu-Ray in the living room. This shelf has given me the best of both worlds!
