Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of OPPO HM-31 Advanced HDMI 1.3 and 1080p SwitchCustomer Review: Problem solved Summary: 4 Stars
This has turned out to be pretty much what I was looking for, but I first I had to solve a little problem. After I hooked up my cable box to port 3, Apple TV to port 2, and PS3 to port 1, I started having problems with screen flickers and dropouts on HD channels. Everything else worked fine. I replaced the output HDMI cable, but it didn't seem to make a difference, so I called OPPO support. The very nice guy there said it sounded like a cable issue, and he suggested I replace the cable that runs from the cable box to the switcher - something for some reason I never thought about. That did the trick, and now everything is good. It doesn't auto switch back to the cable box after I'm done with PS3 or Apple TV because Apple TV always gives off a signal, which confuses the switcher, but I can live with that. If you bought this switcher and you're having trouble with flickering or dropouts, replace the cable and you should be okay.
Customer Review: Perfect for DVRs!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been looking for an HDMI switch with prioritized ports for a very long time. For anyone who has a DVR, you'll discover that the HDMI port stays active. What this means is that if you hook up, let's say a DVD player with your DVR (Tivo's included), through a non-prioritized automatic HDMI switch, the unit will switch to the DVD when powered on, but will NOT switch back to your DVR when the DVD is switched off. However, this OPPO switch WILL switch back. Just hook up your DVR into port 3 (lowest priority).
I've seen no degradation in signal, and it fully supports HDMI 1.3 and is fully HDCP compliant. It switches very quickly to whatever is turned on, however, if there is any fault with this switch it is that it's a tad bit slow switching back to my DVR (5-10 seconds).
I would highly recommend this switch for anyone with a DVR and limited HDMI ports in their TV.
Customer Review: Easy install; clear picture. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a Samsung BDP1600 Blu-Ray player from Amazon and one of the pleasant surprises was how well that unit up-converts non-HD signals. As I have added other media sources (HD cable, Apple TV, Netflix, etc) I have run out of HDMI terminals on my TV. I looked at a lot of switches, but often the feedback from prior users cited degraded or erratic signal quality.... I sure didn't want to lose the upgrade I'd gotten with the Samsung Blu-Ray. The feedback for the OPPO seemed to be the best, and I've heard good things about their other gear so I took the plunge. I also bought new v.1.3/Cat 2 HDMI cables from Amazon; very good value. I have had this unit installed for about a month and tested it vs. a direct connection to the back of the TV and I can't see a difference..... which makes me happy. Set-up was quick and easy and the remote works well.... but boy is it easy to lose in the sofa.
Customer Review: Can't beat it for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered the OPPO HDMI switch box and 2 Belkin HDMI Cables all for $124 and received free shipping from Amazon. I really couldn't be happier with the switch box it was a breeze to install and the picture quality is great! I'm using it with my Dish Network VIP722DVR, Xbox 360 with my Samsung 1080i LCD TV which only had one HDMI connection before the OPPO swticher arrived. This is a very solid piece of video hardware no frills but looks nice and works great! It's about the size of a VCR tape if you were wondering. Just remember it does not come with a HDMI cable. I was kinda worried about loosing picture quality using a switch box but I see no loss at all it looks great! I checked the local stores looking for a switcher in most cases they were more money. So do yourself a favor if you need more HDMI inputs on your TV and get yourself an OPPO switcher you won't be sorry!
Customer Review: Excellent solution for HDTVs with one HDMI port Summary: 4 Stars
I purchase this switch based on reviews and future compatibility with HDMI 1.3 standard. However, the practical reason for getting the switch is that my HDTV has only one HDMI port and I have several HDMI components. I connected a Sony Play Station 3 and Scientific Atlanta DVR set-top box using the switch. I had hoped to use the digital-out on the HDTV to route digital audio to my AV receiver, but overlooked the fact that my HDTV was not HDMI 1.3 capable. However, am able to route digital audio to both my HDTV (via HDMI) and AV receiver (via digital-out on PS3 and DVR). This was important because its not necessary to have my AV receiver on to have sound from the DVR and PS3 (except that its through the HDTVs speakers). I had hoped to pay less for a switch, but am satisfied with my purchase due to flawless operation and configuration options.
