I purchased this based on a review above. Like a lot of people with flat screen tv's more than a year old, I only had 1 hdmi input to work with. But, my cable box and my dvd player both have HDMI out, and I wanted the higher quality (and single cable) connection. So I bought this.
Packaging is great, set up is almost idiot proof; hdmi out goes to the tv, dvd and cable box goes to the hdmi inputs. Plug it in and you're up and running. Follow the advice of the first reviewer, and put your cable box into input #3, and then you don't have to use the remote that came with it to switch between inputs. You can leave your cable box on...and then turn on your DVD player with your DVD remote and the TV will recognize the dvd player. Then - this is the cool part - when you're done with your DVD, you can simply turn off your DVD player, and it goes back to the cable box (input #3) without needing to manually switch the input via the oppo remote. Very cool.
I've owned an oppo dvd player for a month now, and love it. Wish more retailers carried these products as they're well made, attractive, easy to set up, and inexpensive!
p.s. don't forget to buy extra HDMI cables, as you'll need at least one more than you have now. I bought cables to go hdmi cables - cheap - here on amazon, and they work fine.

After reading numerous HDMI switch reviews I went with the OPPO HM-31 to expand the HDMI capabilities of my Denon AVR-888 7.1-Channel/5.1+2-Channel Independent Zone Home Theater Receiver with HDMI I/O and Serial I/R Control (Black)receiver. The receiver only has 2 HDMI input ports and I quickly ran out with my Sony PlayStation 3 80 GB, TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder, and Sony DVP-NS700H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Blackplayer.
The OPPO comes in a very nice package, a little overdone for my tastes, and includes a small remote. Funny thing is you really don't need the remote as the OPPO HM-31 will automatically switch between sources based on what is turned on and input port. The lower number input ports have higher priority so the DVD player that I want to always take priority when the kids are using the system is on port 1 while the PS3 is on port 2. If I forget to turn off the PS3 and the kids want to watch a movie on the DVD player it is no problem, the higher priority device will take over.

I recently purchased a less expensive HDMI switch, only to discover that it failed miserably. Everything worked fine except for my Brighthouse SA8300 HDC DVR, I couldn't hear any audio (yet my other devices worked fine). I searched long and hard and finally found a review on Amazon for the OPPO HM-31 HDMI switch; another person had a similar issue with the SA8300 cable box and found that the OPPO worked.
So for those in a similar situation, here's one more confirmation that the OPPO is an excellent HDMI switch that is compatible with almost any device (including the thorn in my side, the SA8300). The picture quality is perfect, audio is excellent, and works flawlessly with my Xbox360, Sony BluRay player, and my Scientific Atlanta 8300 HDC DVR!
What's even better than the great device compatibility is the auto-switching feature; I don't need to use the included remote control, or press a button on the switch to change inputs. The OPPO HM-31 automagically switches to a new device when it turns on (based on port priority), so I can neatly tuck away my switch out of sight (even though it looks great).
For those looking for an HDMI switch, stop looking and get the OPPO...it works great straight out of the box.

Finally getting tired of trying to explain to the wife how to switch the HDMI cable for the 360 and BR player (TV only has 1 HDMI port), I decided to try and give this product a go.
I've used splitters in the past and always could see the video degradation. Most people don't notice things like that, but working with tv sets and entertainment systems daily, I've learned to see differences.
Unpacking this item was a bit surprising as the splitter itself comes in a sealed cloth bag with a velcro opener. Seeing the item has a glossy black finish, this is a nice addition if you decide to move and don't want it scratched.
It was very lightweight and very easy to set up and get operating. And having read previous reviews, I hooked up my DVR to port 3, as its always on, and the 360 to port 1 and BR Player to port 2. The auto switching between port 1/2 and 3 is great. Once I turn the 360 or BRP off, it goes right to port 3 for the TV. The ONLY complaint I have is it does take a few seconds to switch over, maybe due to it waiting to see if the signal comes back.
Other then that, I highly recommend this device.

I have a Samsung HDTV that is approximately 3 years old. Great picture (DLP) however it has only one HDMI connection. The tv's location has vaulted ceilings so we decided against a surround system, and therefore no receiver which would also have resolved the HDMI problem.
After researching switches, prices, etc, I decided on this switch. They shipped it VERY quickly, packaged nicely.
The switch itself is very easy to operate. It has three inputs and one ouput to your tv. If you have only one device on at a time, it will automatically switch between inputs depending on which one of your devices is sending a signal. In my case, I have more than one component on at a time, so I do not utilize the auto switch capabilities.
Nevertheless, I have a Logitec Harmony One Remote (best universal remote I have ever owned) that handles the switch between my set up activities (ie. choose to "watch cable" and it will change to input one; DVD activity, input two; SAT activity, input three).
Overall I am extremely pleased with this switch, it works great, the price was very competitive, good quality product.
